A fat man and a marathon

Ran 2 miles yesterday in 21:32. Down to a 10:46 pace! And I was talking to my buddy about the marathon training. And I told him I'm definitely doing the Milwaukee Marathon in October. I'm not too worried about the half in May in Madison, since I've done 8 miles before, but 26 miles is just .... WOW, that seems like a looooong way!

So I'm violating my rule and upping my mileage 3 miles this week so I can get back to running 4 days a week. 2, 2, 2, and 3 this week. End of January I'll be running 4 miles/4 days and February will be 5 miles/4 days.

I bought clementines last night. They're only 40 calories each! Woo. Had a big bowl of chili for breakfast (it's freezing out!), clementines and chicken salad for lunch, halibut and veggies for dinner.

Just a relaxed 2 mile run tonight after work.

Dang! Awesome to set another goal for yourself... idk if I could ever run a marathon!!! I have really bad asthma so I would be scared to. And yay for clementines!!! :)

Did NOT go to the gym last night. :leaving:

I picked up a shift until 10:00 pm to get some OT, and panzied out so I could get some sleep. I was totally lame and skipped it. Oh well, still have tonight and the weekend to get in 2 more runs and weight sessions.

On the plus side, I'm down to 275.5 this morning. The weight is just falling off! Down a good 8 pounds this month already ... finally got everything firing on all cylinders. 4 days running, free weights 3 times, and my diet is fantastic w/ no sweeteners at all.

I'm doing so well that I'M EXTENDING MY NO SUGAR PLEDGE UNTIL CHRISTMAS DAY! I figure I earn a piece of pie by then. :drool5:

Oh, and Sarah, I'm sure if you asked your doctor and paced yourself you could make if ... if you really want to one day.

725.5... Nice!!! 8 lbs in 1 mth is awesome :sifone:
LOVE that you're continuing with the no sugar goal... it's so evil :reddevil:
It is NOT lame for choosing OT over the gym... gotta pay for the membership somehow ;)

Have a great weekend!!

725.5! Haha! I'm so glad I don't have THAT much weight to lose! :biggrinjester:

They actually had a really good article in Men's Health about sugar yesterday. Very long, but the one thing that stuck out to me was
"for an Oral glucose tolerance test, you consume 75 grmas of glucose to see how your system processes sugar. It's kind of a stress test -- downing that kind of sugar is something you should NOT normally do. And yet a 24 ounce soda often contains more than 75 grams of sugar, most of it likely high-fructrose corn syrup."

So imagine all the shock your doing to your system by eating a half dozen cookies and 3 sodas every night!!! It was actually a pretty fair article though about not demonizing sugar. I'd quote more if it, but I gotta go.

Oh, and one lady ACTUALLY SUED PepsiCo over the fact that crunchberries in captain crunch ... WEREN'T ACTUALLY FRUIT!! :smilielol5::eek::rotflmao: It got thrown out, but what an idiot.

Great job! Sounds like you have found the right combo of diet and exercise for maximum weight loss right now. I think the chili's and other high fiber foods make a huge difference in filling you up without feeling hungry. I will have to try the sugar ban myself. I think that may be something that affects me more than I realize. I am making split pea soup this afternoon to give me a good option for next week.

Just think - if you can stay motivated to run and exercise in the cold, cold Wisconsin winter, it will be a piece of cake to keep going come springtime!!

Congrats and keep it going...

Split pea soup looks so gross, yet tastes so yummy!

I'd have to say that the most important thing in losing weight has been having my meals prepared. I'm eating better than ever! And TONS of food. Like yesterday I had to stop at McDonald's to get my nephew some fries, but I wasn't tempted in the slightest because I new I had fish and veggies and rice I was going to eat at my sisters a half hour later. Then I wanted to snack, b/c I always do when watching a movie at my sister's, but since I'm on my no sugar pledge I just ate some veggies and fish. I bought more tupperware, so things like Chili can be frozen and then just grab one for lunch at work ... filled with fiber and protein and LOADED with veggies. And, truthfully, they're so so so much better than any fast food.

I guess I'm lucky in that I've been a cook my whole life and love new recipes, but I'm only cooking like twice a week and just make more so that it lasts for 3-4 meals.

And cutting out sweets entirely is helping a lot too. I was reading that sugar article and it was talking about how sugar can mask your fullness and make you more hungry. I think even eating yoplait yogurt and things like that were making me more prone to night time snacking. Now if I do get hungry, I just eat a banana or some clementines, rather than a yogurt, which is filled with artificial sweeteners (which makes me want another one, or some leftovers, or something else).

Gonna go run 3 miles, do shoulder presses, pull downs, dead lifts and step ups, probably AFTER work at like 11:30 pm. Nice not having to work in the morning. :) Tomorrow, get to watch the Pack whup the Bears. Wooo! :hurray:

Every day I step on the scale I'm down another pound ... 273.5 today (but I weighed myself late).

Woohoo! Awesome. If you're planning on staying there saturday night I heard that hotel rooms fill up fast and can get kind of expensive if you don't get one early. My coworker was telling me that you have to pick your packet up on Saturday, and can't on race day. We're probably going up and sat and staying in this guy's house that does the Madison Ironman every year. So we'll be picking up a few other ppls packets that Saturday if you need someone to get yours and you're not driving up until early sunday. Long ways out I know, but we're dorks and were just talking about this yesterday b/c we're so excited. I'm so excited for you too!

Sounds delicious!! Thanks for sharing :)

Okay, it WAS GOOD, but I just got home and threw it all away b/c I started feeling nauseous at work. Like, the way I only feel when I eat some bad food. I never got really sick, but even thinking about eating more makes me queasy. Maybe I should have double washed all the veggies instead of the half-assed rinse I gave them.

So I felt terrible and had to drive home in the freezing rain, but I still stopped and ran 3 miles and did my weights. YAY FOR ME!!!

3 miles in 32:30. Feel pretty darn good about myself. Except now I have to cook again tomorrow. Oh, and my dad made chocolate eclair cake, a banana cream pie, and a pumpkin pie for the game party tomorrow. None of it for me ... though that eclair cake is like a little slice of heaven.

OH ... MY ... GOD. That sounds amazing ... I'm gonna bet that wouldn't make it onto my list of "things that I can resist". Eclairs are like the ultimate vice.

I'm practically drooling just thinking about it ... I gotta go work out now. haha!

GOOD LUCK!

Okay, so I cheated and may have had some sugar today. AHHH! I know, I know. I was going to not have any until Christmas. In fact, I ate terrible all day so far. Chicken wings and nachos and some eclair cake (this is what happens when I throw out all my precooked meals).

Normally I'd get pretty mad at myself since I've been perfect almost all week. But I've got a much healthier relationship with food now. So tomorrow it's back to healthiness and REAL food (I don't think that yummy velveta melted cheese mess counts as real), and even with a bad day still blow all my goals out of the water!

I think I'm just going to give up nutrisweet and asparatime FOR GOOD. I've read some bad stuff about them, haven't had any crystal light, pop or yogurt in a week and don't miss it at all. And now I'm getting used to drinking ONLY water and getting more than enough. If I can do it in the winter, then this should be easy once it hits spring and summer.

Kinda wishing I wouldn't have had that BIG piece, b/c really all I needed was a bite to satisfy me. No more until Christmas day though and I see 269! Packers won, now off to the gym and work!

Ran two miles in 21:55, and that was my easy run. Pretty happy with how my pace is improving, being able to run a 10:30-ish pace for a full 3 miles now. So excited to finally have some miles to run again! Doing 2, 3, 2, 3 this week. Can't wait until I get to bitch about my 10 mile training runs in the heat this summer. Haha!

REALLY busy schedule the next few days, so I'm going to be offline for a bit, but I'll be thinking of you all while I'm drenching my shirt with sweat on the treadmill. Don't y'all be slacking on me while I'm gone!! :)

:seeya:

Jeez, I eat sugar ONE day and then I crave it for like 2 days straight! Haha, finally don't crave it at all today. Yay!

Except I didn't work out for like 2 days and ate kinda crappy since I was busy and didn't bring food with to work. :banghead: Monday and Tuesday kinda stunk so far this week. First McDonalds in a long, long time yesterday for lunch. And it was pretty shitty really. As far as food goes, McDonalds doesn't even taste good. Excited to cook some rice and veggies and tuna tonight and get back on the wagon. Mmmm, I could eat that every single day until I die.

If I can find some camera batteries tonight maybe I'll take some pics now that I'm down 50+ lbs. I'd like to see if it's very noticeable yet.

Stepped on the scale and it said I was 283! Ahhhh! How one can gain 8 pounds in 4 days is beyond me. Must be mainly water weight ... except for a pound or two maybe. I mean, my weight fluctuates, but NOT THAT MUCH! Heck, I actually weighed 273.5 really early Saturday morning when I got up... and now it's only Wednesday.

I was kinda down tonight, since I got all psyched up to run the FULL marathon in May and not just the half. And I'd been going so easy the last few weeks only adding 1 mile a week and keeping the pace slow. So I get jacked up, hop on the treadmill and after 3/4 of a mile, my shin muscle gets super sore again... GRRR! :smash::willy_nilly::eek:

So it must just be since I've upped from 3 days to 4 AND upped the intensity from 11:30 miles to 10:30 miles. I'M HOPING running at a SLOW pace again will let me resume running tomorrow. Got a little excited! Guess I just to focus on getting the miles built up 1 mile a week for another month or two and take it easy.

Couldn't get the camera to work (prolly broken), so I guess you all don't get to see my runway walk as I went through all my old clothes and threw about half away. Lucky you!

I know how you feel! I stepped on the scale Monday morning and it said I gained 4 and a half pounds in 2 days. WHAT? Seriously?! I'm hoping it's a water retention thing ... maybe it'll be gone by Friday ... I hope so!

Either way, we'll both be fine, I'm sure!! :D
