Howdy!

Howdy! Hey, did you notice Sillygirl is running off and leaving us. We were all 230 and now she's dropped another 2 pounds! We better stay on track!

Speaking of on track, I would like to formally accept your 20 pound challenge. (Yes, I know you weren't talking to me, but if we are buddies, I've gotta keep up! ;) ) I was already looking hopefully at reaching that weight by Labor Day weekend, so that's not so far off. 2 1/2 pounds a week, right? We can do it! 210 by August 23!!!! You stay on me if I fall behind, okay??? :D

As for sillygirl, no I couldn't tell she left us in the dust because her numbers over lap on my screen, I know she lost 2 pounds, but can't read her starting weight - GO SILLYGIRL!! Twin & I are ON your tail!!

Your funny, M2M. I tell my partner as soon as I get off the scales. There is no chance of him not knowing I lost 50lbs, but wouldn’t it be something if that really happened? Your doing great. I'm with you and the Avocado....I will not give up my Avocado!!!

156 calories - Grilled cheese sandwhich (1 slice 100% whole wheat bread, 1 slice 2% lowfat american cheese, 1 tsp Smart Balance Light Spread)
154 calories - Orange, mandarin, canned or frozen, in light syrup, drained

100 calories - Ritz Snack Pack

Dinner
190 Calories - Packaged Pasta Mix
170 Calories - Pot Roast
35 Calories - Steamed Mixed Vegies

Totals 1035

Water 48oz (I'm working on my last 24)
And...urgh...one diet dr. pepper (I was grocery shopping, wanted something to drink and didn't want to spare the 250 calories for the leaded version)

I played Hard Core Pool Play for 1 hour - tossing 80lb kids around, sharks & minnows, keep away, & a few laps - I have no idea how many calories burned.

I walked 2 miles in 35 minutes for 443 calories burned (according to my pedometer)

Pineola, mine still hasn't noticed...today he said something about all I fix is rabbit food (I kindly reminded him of his 3030 calorie coronary special last night) and today, I asked my daughter if the bathing suit I was wearing looked alright, she said "yeah mom, it doesn't make you look fat or anything - you know, it even makes you look skinny."

So that's the extent of my family's awareness ;)

And no, I can't give up avocados - and did you know ONE avocado supposedly has 5 servings??? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I know that if I want to lose 3 pounds a week, I need to eat around 1260 calories. When you put it that way, it does make a lot of sense, and even seems worth the hassle. In the past when I've tried, I've been easily frustrated. I've doubted that I was getting accurate numbers, and found it especially difficult if I went out to eat. But I think I'm willing to give it another shot! (Even if only for a few days, so I can see where I'm at.) Thanks!
 
C - I was going by the bag of avocados I bought yesterday. At the grocery store, you can buy them separately (and they're very large) or in a bag of 4 and they're smaller - but still Haas. Those smaller ones said they had 5 servings.

AS IF!!

WIP - I think you're right, it can be a hassle, and there is the fudge factor if you go out (which I rarely do). Breakfast and lunch is generally easy for me to do, because everything I eat is labeled.

Dinner is hard to figure out if I don't have a label, but I just keep some paper on hand while cooking and right down what I can, and fill in with fitday.com

Yesterday, I knew I had enough 'calorie room' for a smoothie - but I was just too full after dinner and then went to play Nintendo DS with my daughter and forgot about it.

I'm going to go make that smoothie now!!

Okay, I'm jumping on the avocado train with you guys. I will not give them up!!! But here's my reasoning on the matter. We need good fats in our diet, because that's one of the things that helps the elasticity in our skin. And we want to shrink back all nice and firm and not have hangy stuff going on, right. And I get most of the fat in my diet from meat, cheese, nuts and eggs. So a little olive oil or avocado here and there has to be good for me, right?

At least that's what I tell myself!! LOL!!!

The other thing that hit home with me is the nobody noticing until I had lost about 30 pounds. People are really just starting to notice now. And that can be a little discouraging. But there is like this magic weight and once you pass it everyone will start saying something. Just keep up what you are doing. You've got great goals which are totally attainable. And you are going to be a diva at that party in August!!!!

Sneaking monounsaturated fats into your own daily diet may allow you to enjoy similar health benefits, says Melanie Polk, a registered dietitian and director of nutrition education at the American Institute for Cancer Research in Washington, D.C. Used creatively, she says, avocados can add variety -- and good nutrition -- to your diet. Instead of spreading butter or cream cheese on your bread or bagel, use some mashed avocado instead. Replace that mayo you'd usually put on a sandwich with avocado slices. You'll not only save calories, you'll be cutting out saturated fat and increasing your daily intake of monounsaturated fat as well.

A recommended serving size is 2 tablespoons, or roughly one-sixth of a medium-sized avocado. Each serving provides 5 grams of fat and 55 calories. Still, compared with butter or mayonnaise -- which each pack 22 fat grams and 200 calories in a 2-tablespoon serving -- they don't seem so bad.

Of course, when you're used to eating the whole thing, it's kind of hard to imagine scooping out 2 TBS and being done!

And Scarlett, you're right, the magic number will probably hit someday - my husband is dancing around the issue...he talks about me serving "rabbit food" or says something about me walking or "What are you doin'? Trying to get healthy?" (from him this morning as I was making my first smoothie - Yuck! I made it wrong!) He says these things good naturedly, but he hasn't noticed that I've been doing a lot of these things for awhile now or that they've had any effect.

It's ok - I've never felt better about myself :D He'll see it eventually!

Funny you mention this, but then I doubt you started out as heavy as me, anyway I noticed the same thing. Outside of family members no one said jacksquat to me till I lost at least 50 lbs.

I guess what really feeds a dieter's fire (in part) are those compliments, at least in my world ;) I never get tired of them now that I've lost a 'noticable' amount. It truly keeps my inspiration alive.
 
Hey. Looks like you've been doing great in the real world with real food in moderation!! I don't want to be on a diet my whole life but I'm not going to gorge myself to the point of being sick ever again either :p

Today, my hubbys first day home, first thing he does is get a bag of chips out he bought for the flight. :rolleyes: I ate 2 chips yes really only 2. It was great realizing I really didn't want them, they didn't taste good enough to waste hundreds of calories on! ;)
 
Hello Chica! Thanks for stopping by my diary. I'm glad to see so many new motivated people on here since I was away for a week or two.

I'm so happy that you are taking control of your life and doing it on your own. Was just reading the first page of your thread about no one noticing. Same thing here, I'm up and down so much I can't blame them. Once I get another 20 off me perhaps I'll raise a few eyebrows. haha

I am looking forward to being able to see a difference myself, but as far as people noticing, when I start to see a difference I am going to have to go into hiding. I am SO serious about wanting my weight loss to be a big surprise to all my in-laws this Christmas. Just the idea of it makes me giddy. I don't see them very often anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard to hide, but I am thinking of wearing an ankle-length jumper and a sweatshirt if I have to see them any time this fall. I really want the thrill of the big reveal! Move That Bus! :D
 
I just spent two hours with my girlfriends - no one said a word. I suppose it's still not noticable. I thought they would be the FIRST!

MissJB, thanks for stopping by my diary :) No one has ever really seen me lose weight, it's never been an issue, I think because it has been a very slow, gradual gain over the course of years.
 
I think healthy fats are really important. I too am an avocado fan, but I also like nuts and seeds. And also, I understand that olive oil is the only oil that doesn't get altered by heating it. I'm not sure if the other oils become saturated or trans fat. Maybe someone can advise?
 
ah but its so frustrating with avocados, olive oil, and almonds because they're so good for you but i just don't want to waste my calories on them bc you eat like 3 almonds and its already over 40 calories and not even satisfying!


keep working on this smoothies M2M, they're so good for you and maybe you could add some protein into them
 
Are these friends that see you all the time? If so maybe they just haven't noticed your AMAZING weight loss! :) Or maybe they are like some of my friends, who are wonderful but can be a little sabotaging because they have their own issues. Anyway, it doesn't matter because soon they won't even recognize you, and then they'll be commenting!! Until then you have to be satisfied with our happy dances!!!!!
 
I know the feeling about the big reveal. I remember when I first lost a lot of weight and I had not seen my aunts for a really long time. Then we had a family function and there I was all slim and delicious. It was wonderful. Not only did I feel good about myself I got a lot of compliments. It certainly was a great feeling.

I am excited to hear how that goes for you. I'm sure you will not doubt let us know how your christmas goes.

Your determination is inspirational to me.

As for your friends not noticing your weight loss they will eventually. Some people just don't pay attention to those kind of things and sometimes they may notice a change in your but can't quite place the change. They will notice. I'm guessing you haven't told your friends yet.
