Good Morning Everyone,
I have a bit more time to post the details...
They took Bob in yesterday morning to preform an EPS test. It's where they send a catheter into the heart from the arteries in the leg. Once the catheter was in the heart, they shot electrical impulses to find out if the neurons that control the pumping of the heart were working (since the EKG read out showed that they weren't working properly.)
While they were in there, they recreated the experience that caused him to black out. They fibrilated his heart, which caused his blood pressure to drop and took him almost to blacking out then pulled him out of it. They did this several times. Apparently Bob's body's response to this fibrilation was something only one of the doctors had only seen twice in 20 years.
While they had the catheter in the heart - they performed an Ablation where they weere able to destroy the problem cells in the heart which forces the heart's impulses to take the normal conduction route/pathway.
They then tested him again by putting his heart back in fibrilation and repeated the sequence of events that led up to the black out - all with no effect. They completely fixed the problem - no pace maker needed!
Apparently, there was no way we could have ever known that he had this kind of problem. Most annual EKG's are short tests, and would not have picked up the problem, he would have had to be under observation for it to be picked up. He would have gone right up until he had a heart attack.
Today is Bob's 50th birthday. He gave us the best present he could have - and that's now, a clean bill of health and a fixed heart!
Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers & well wishes, they have meant more then you guys can ever know.
And to answer the question of burned calories, well, yeah, I'm at 175 today
