A dairy from India

Hey - I just thought I'd jump in and answer your percentages question.

A pretty standard split is 40/30/30 - that's 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% healthy fats. Some people vary that a bit, but overall that's a nice healthy split.

Thank you KaraCooks. It makes sense. I should really watch my Carbs intake. Endurance was right.

I went to a dietitian and did not really like my session with her. She was patronizing and not at all helpful. I asked her explain a few things, and she looked at me as if I was the most stupid person she had ever encountered. Maybe I should do more research and go to another one, but I kinda like how I am getting along with Fitday.com- i have customized food and it is working so far.

I wasn't very hungry in the morning after last nights binge fest, so i tried to go easy today. Was at home all day, working so it was easy to be disciplined. I didn't go near he kitchen unless I absolutely had to. :Angel_anim:

b'fast: a big bowl of plain homemade yogurt

lunch: basmati rice (1/2 cup, small), sautéed cauliflower and beans

snack: one roti with jam and a few cubes of cheddar cheese

dinner: veggie salad with an egg

snack: 11 almonds and some walnuts

I also had two small choc chip cookies. :banghead:

Need to wake up early and go to yoga.

Hey Juni, sorry you didnt have any luck with the dietitian you met with. Some people's children eh?

If you visit this link, she may be able to answer some of the questions you ask. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/newcomers/33398-hi-canada.html
She is a personal trainer, i dont know how often she will be online but its worth a try :)

I'm glad I can help.

My experience with professionals (drs, dieticians, etc.) has been that they aren't a lot of help. I know that there are good ones out there - I just haven't found them yet. I've found that the research I've done has been a lot more helpful to me than anything I've gotten from the professional health care system.

Sad, but true.

Nightrunner- will try to follow her in that link but she doesn't seem to be online and updating very often.

Thanks KaraCooks. I am not going to another one until I am absolutely sure. Fitday is working out fine for me and I am losing 2lbs every week, which is considered healthy and trying to read as much as I can here and in other healthy eating, exercise sites. I should be fine for now.

So I had another deadline today (phew! done!), now i can concentrate on food and exercise. been missing yoga:ack2: but will go from tomorrow.

So i did make it to yoga yesterday morning, but it was raining today so I could not go. I love the monsoon but it really throws my schedule off, so.... anyway...will go again tomorrow if it doesnt rain. I have become really good in doing the Suryanamaskar (the sun salutation)- which is supposed to be really good for you. With every yoga session, I feel like my body is getting more flexible...

Have not been sleeping so well for the last few days. Will try to go to bed early tonight so I don't have trouble getting up in the morning...

i dont weight everyday, but i think i am losing inches around my waist. my trousers have stared falling and someone said that i am losing the fat around my tummy coz she cant see the paunch anymore. LOL!

does anyone have good advise on getting rid of this craving i have for sweets? i wish i could OD on all the sweet things in the world.

Oh sweetness, why do you torment me so? I am so on the verge of going to the kitchen for some dark chocolate right now. aaaaah!:banghead:

I have had some days when i have eaten unhealthy, but I think I am working and watching what i eat quite closely. I have stopped going out much- i let myself go out twice a week (otherwise i will go crazy). When i do go out I really watch my alcohol intake (not that I drink too much but still), and avoid sweet stuff.

Also, I have a little secret. I used to smoke until last week (not a lot of cigs, but maybe one a day). I have been nicotine free for a week now. I don't miss it at all but I don't want to go back to smoking again. Cold turkey seems to work the best for me...a few years ago, i said i would stop drinking beer, and I did stop. Since then I have probably only had three mugs. I want to be like that with cigs and sugar. Oh what do I do about sugar? I wish I could go cold turkey with sugar.

I am getting a little impatient, why cant i just be 120lbs already- i am losing some inches around my waist but my booz haven't reduced in size. I know you cant spot reduce, but I wanna lose some in my breasts. I miss being 34B. Maybe that will happen some day.

You're doing great!! I think we're all a little impatiant :p You've got 6 pounds gone already! Just keep up the good work and you'll get there! You didn't gain it in a couple weeks, you wont lose it in a couple weeks :)

I'm in the same boat Juni. Last night my dad bought doughnuts and i was so proud of myself for not having any. This morning however there were still some in the kitchen....:toetap05: At first i distracted myself by going online and checking email and what not. It worked for about an hour, then i just caved and had not one but two!!!! ARGH! why?!? lol I went for a run/walk afterwards and mowed the lawn hoping to get rid of some of the calories...It makes me feel better to get a workout in after cheating, but ive been cheating so damn much lately i really need to stop. This is unacceptable!! lol

Hmm i like the idea of a sports bra. Maybe ill get that instead of the workout shirt.

OooOoh!!Congrats on being nictoine free so far!!

Thank you nightrunner. I do like being nicotine free. I wasn't a big smoker anyway, mostly social smoker, but i wouldn't feel good about it later. Now I just say NO when some of my colleagues go for a cig break.

Antyoch- I sounded like a brat in that last post about being impatient about weight. You are a voice of reason and absolutely right, I didn't gain it in a couple of weeks, and I am not gonna lose it in a couple. Thanks for the encouragement.

Food log for 21 August

B'fast- 8 am- two mulitgrain toasts, omelet and some olives

Snack 11am- buttermilk and lots of cucumbers

Lunch 130pm- boiled bulgar wheat with sautéed cauliflower

Snack- 5pm- cucumbers, fresh lemon soda, really yummy brown bread

Dinner- 7.30- boiled corn

Dessert- dark chocolate. :)

Today is my weigh in.....I am always nervous before I go on the scales.

Before I started gaining weight this past spring I was constant on 132 lbs for a very long time. I don't remember my weight from college days- but I must have been about 118 then. I have a feeling it is going to be extremely difficult to break the 132lbs and more to the 120lbs...so I am gonna have to start doing more exercise- I have been thinking about C25k for a few weeks now. I HAAATE running. Another option is to join a dance class in the mornings- I was thinking Indian classical dances-- Bharatnatyam or Kathak (don't know how good I will be at it, but these dance forms are great workouts).

Lets see...

I am off to the weigh in....yikes!! Have a good weekend enveryone!!!

So I just did weigh myself- I am 133.1lbs now, just lost about 1.3lbs since last week. I really need to start exercising more. But I am happy that I at least lost 1lbs this week and my weight did not remain constant. If I try c25k with yoga, that should break the pattern....let's see if it works. Maybe I'll start from today.

And NO SUGAR, LESS CARBS and MORE PROTEIN in my diet from now on.

So I went out to have lunch and stuffed my face. The food was home cooked, low in salt and oil though. But I feel so full (lunch was about 4 hrs and I still feel full). I also indulged in dessert- some really yummy chocolate cake (really small size), Indian carrot dessert and another traditional yogurt dessert. They all fit in really tiny (saucer size) plate. I still feel guilty though.

Tomorrow is another day. I am seriously seriously seriously thinking about C25K. I think I will start tomorrow. I have Robert Ullery's podast. I tried C25k four years ago, and then again in May this past year but never got past week 4. Hopefully I will do the whole nine weeks this time around.

Hi dear, so you going great on food stuff, less carbs more protein Great :),You are starting the C25K Proggramme, good going :)What I get from your earlier posts is that ,as you are losing the pounds and getting self control over eating habits, you are getting a bit impatient.First of all take each day as it comes, you must be so very proud of yourself ,you are making so many changes in your habits and losing pounds weekly,I am so very proud of you!Just don't lose your mind in expecting much more from yourself to such an extent that you lose your motivation and the hard work that you put daily to meet your goal.Remember its a lifestyle change and it takes time.It might be like that you will be more stunning than what you expect to be, who knows,So just take each day as it comes, enjoy life and love yourself always :)
Kathak is a great dance form, its very elegant, I like it very much, good to know that you are eager to learn it.But don't take up too many things at a time, its hard to keep up with them,Slow changes lasts forever :)

Take care :)

I have been bratty again. :( But you are right, Endurance. It is a lifestyle change.

I am not a big running, so my Kathak question was if Kathak is as intense a workout as say 20 minutes of running. If I can learn Kathak and stay fit at the same time, I would totally opt that than running.

You are ever so encouraging. Thank you!!

How are you feeling?

I thought this weekend going to be easy, but it turned out to be another one of those blah kinda weekends. Saturday was nice, had lunch with friends, hung out for a bit etc...today I was at the office, trying to get a head start on something. This is the third weekend I have worked like this and next weekend doesn't seem to look like it is going to be less busy, either.

I guess it is better to be busy than have too much time...(or maybe not, I don't know- I am rambling).

I was sooooo much better than yesterday regarding food

7.30- two brown bread toast, one scrambled egg with olives

12.30- brown rice, beans, pickled radish and lentil soup

5pm- cucumbers

6pm- a small piece of bread with butter and jam :smash: ugh!

7pm- veggie salad

So I have a question: I ate one scrambled egg and two pieces of toast (small sized toasts) in the morning. I usually get hungry very fast, but in the last few days I have noticed that whenever I have protein, I don't get hungry for a while (more than 4 hours). I have been trying to eat small meals throughout the day, but if I feel stuffed, now can I eat more? Am I supposed to continue to eat (even though it is a little bit) although I don't feel hungry? I am confused. Help!

Didn't quite start C25k this morning. Did listen to the podcast though. :sifone: I went for a loooong brisk walk and got back home sweaty and happy.

:iagree: Whenever im home with nothing to do i find myself constantly returning to the kitchen for something to snack on.

You bring up a good point-and I'm interested to hear other people's thoughts on this.

You're doing great Juni!!

And I'm pretty sure protein and fibre make you feel fuller for longer. They're low GI so they take longer to digest and therefore make you feel fuller. If you can keep your insulin levels steady you dont feel the sugar crash that makes you crave. And I'd said yes! Eat even if you dont feel hungry. You need to eat even if you dont feel hungry. You need to eat a certain amount of calories everyday to stay healthy.

You should do the c25k program!! I NEVER enjoyed running. HATED it! But I ache to do this, if I dont run for a day I have the biggest urge to run the next day. The program is great! And you CAN do it!

Just keep going and trying. You can do it :)

So the rain set me back. No yoga or C25k this morning. I love the monsoon, but it really messes up my exercise schedule. But I am here in the forum, early in the morning, checking out everyone's progress and saying hi.

Nightrunner, Antyoch: I have asked the question about eating regularly in another thread. I will try eating a little bit even though I am not hungry today. Usually I eat when I am just about beginning to feel hungry. It makes perfect sense to eat a little bit (almonds, other nuts a fruit). Let me try it for a few days and get back.

And thank you so much for encouraging words. You guys are the best!!

mmmm i love almonds-and i find they really help curb my hunger. I also sprinkle ground flaxseed on my cereal b/c it has a lot of fibre which helps me stay full longer.

Hope you had a productive day at work and here's praying next weekend will be work-free!

Hi Juni, thanks for popping in on my diary.

I'd love to visit India one day. My hubbie has been there and he really loved it. I'd love to do some hiking and just meet people and eat real Indian food ( I think the Indian food we eat here is pretty different).

It's so cool being on this forum with people from all over the world and supporting each other!

:) Good luck
