A Big Newb

Hey all,

I'm trying this as a bit of a last resort, I'm so hideously unhappy with my wieght, it's crept on over the last 3 years thanks to being contented, in full time eductation and having an underactive thyroid..(excuses excuses I know I have loads!) but it's really getting me down I feel very unattractive, I look monstrous naked (in my eyes) and thinking and worrying about my weight seems to occupy a lot of my mind.

I have started going to the gym every week - 2-3 times per week. But I think it's the food that's a problem, I find it so hard to combat cravings etc and always tend to eat when bored or stressed (and I'm nearly always stressed about something!) so it's hard. I'm sort of thinking aloud here so bear with me!

I thought it might be good to chat to others who are having similar experiences/battles/triumphs and find out some tips and hints to getting the results I'd like.

I'm also very influenced by the media in terms of my self image I'm always comparing myself to other women in magazines, with beautiful toned (and yes I know sometimes airbrushed!) bodies!

I annoy myself actually since I'm fairly intelligent, yes seem to be so irrational when it comes to my self image and relationship with food.

Anyway, I shall have a browse and no doubt find some inspiration from your stories and wish everyone well in their endevours!! :)

Welcome,

This is a great place to find help and motivation. I looked at your picture and honestly, I don't think you look that big. Of course you know how much you weigh and how much you need to lose, but the way you were talking I was expecting someone heavier.

Sounds like you are an emotional eater and need some behavior modification.

So how about putting some stats, a sample menu and excersise plan so we can see what you are doing and if we can help you improve on it.

I agree to some extent, but I think I need to lose the extra pounds to get healthy - I need to have a body ready to bear children in the next 5 or so years (eeek!) so would like to have healthy eating and excercise as good habits and feel 'normal' for me.

At the moment, never 'finding time' for excercise and quick and easy food (in boyfriend sized portions) is the trend for me and it's taking it's toll on my body and self confidence.

I'm just missing that will power and strength to take it in to my own hands and really commit to doing something about it - I can do excercise - I go to the gym a few times a week, but I can't seem to sort out the food!

I'm doing a PhD at the moment which tends to mean I have quite a lot to do in the evenings and leaves little time to worry about preparing food.

I'd love to know if anyone has any good ideas for quick and easy healthy food - (i'll be having a look at the relevant forums and pages) but it's always nice to hear about other people's schedules and what has actually worked for you!!

So far it's been really interesting reading about everyone's situation - all so different and approaching it in so many ways, hopefully I'll find the way that works for me!
