70 stone (980lbs) man

It's sad that he got to be so big without getting help to turn things around.

The public seems to be so nasty and bitter about it - yet as a former engineer he will have paid taxes. People of normal weight seem to regularly arrive in the country and demand treatment from the NHS after paying in nothing.
 
I think a good question brought up in the comments was that if he can't move, who is bringing him all this food? The carers? Shouldn't they uh..take care of him? I don't think it's 100% his fault for being that size but with so many people knowing about the problem now you would think others would attempt to step in, maybe even forcefully so.
 
I think that's my biggest problem with people "achieving" (and I use the term loosely) this kind of weight. AT some point, someone has enabled them to do so. When it gets to the point that the person is so overweight that he or she cannot leave the house - cannot stand up - cannot care for him/herself, someone is taking over those responsibilities and continuing to provide food in unhealthy quantities.

While I think anyone who gets to the point that they can't move bears some responsibility for saying "hey, I have a problem here", the people who continue to enable them past that point are being criminally negligent. I do think that criminal charges should be pressed against people who contribute to someone who is in this kind of situation.

I totally agree with this quote.To continue to to "feed" someone in this disgusting state is negligent and should be punishable by law.
 
There is a follow up article in the same paper today, which has his diet listed at about 20,000 calories per day.

It also states he lost 20 stone (280lbs) but put it back on as he WANTED to be the worlds heaviest man.
 
I guess this man wanted to be in the Guinness World Book of Record that's why he became that big. I think he was happy anyway to be that big. However, he didn't assume the risks involved like no can help him in terms of emergency.
 
Honestly, I don't understand how his handlers aren't seen as abusive, especially being his family. I mean really, at what point does a person who cares say "Sorry Gordo, you're only getting 2 turkeys for lunch instead of 3" especially when the person can't even get up out of bed.
 
They have taken him to hospital in the last week or so in a special ambulance, to try to reduce his weight through calorie control, then put him in for an operation (some form of gastric band).
 
That article makes me...angry. The fact that he wanted to be the world's fattest man and complained after he had lost weight, well, that's just terrible. I know it's not right to discriminate against him because of his size but putting himself in this situation? What a waste.
 
That type of attitude is DEFINITELY upsetting! There is something so much deeper than what we see at the surface as to why he "wants" to be the world's fattest man. Definitely frustrating for us to watch and I'm sure very inconvenient for those who love him or associate with him. But... this goes to show that it all starts with attitude and thinking!
