7 weeks to my wedding-advice needed?!

hi. short background: i'm 29 female, 5'5'', currently weigh 136. Since October, I have been steadily decreasing my weight from 158 (HOORAY!!) losing 3 lbs/month. I guess you'd say I am a 'slow loser'. I have lost 10 inches overall (2.5 chest, 4.5 waist, 3 hips). I eat 1200-1300 calories and do cardio 4-5x/week (varying intensity and duration using elliptical/tapes/running), as well as 3x / week strength training and 2 x advanced pilates classes (using machines). I do not belong to a gym. I drink LOTS of water and take vitamins. I am NOT Looking for a quick fix as I realize this is a lifestyle change.

However, I am getting married in 7 weeks :) and would LOVE to be down to 128 lbs. I have a healthy BMI, not sure on my BF% and know I am in the middle of healthy weight range, but you can definitely SEE fat on my arms, belly, chest and really would love to tone and see definition to feel successful and strong.

I know I am very close to maintaining but I am looking for a 7 week plan - maybe to jumpstart what i have been doing or find ways to define those arms for my strapless gown and for bathing suit season!! ;) I've seen people make drastic changes in 7 weeks and am looking for advice from those of you that have been so successful!!

thank you in advance!!!

Hi, you can defenitly loose fat for 7 weeks. I think that you need a change - sport and fitness plans have to be changed every 4-6 weeks.

In ther fist week:

Try strength training - use dumbbelss and free weights.

Train every muscle group.

There is trainer in every gym and you can ask how to use equipment and weights.

In the second week change your diet - eat lots of protein food - this is meat, fish, eggs and salads (they are not protein food, but taste good).

In the third week change time for your cardio.

Because you was long time on the same diet and workout plan, your body starts working in "save energy" mode.

To prevent this make changes every week or 4 weeks.

If you want try my workout for arms, you need little dumbbells, or replace them with small bottles of mineral water

Wish you beutifull wedding :)

Hugs,
Rumi

I think you need to shock your body. Since you don't belong to a gym what do you do for cardio? Do you run? If not, I would start. Running sprints and stairs is what helps me lose fat the fastest. That and changing my diet.

What is your diet like? I know you said you eat 1200-1300 calories a day (that's a little low actually and your body may be in starvation mode with all the exercise you're doing...may want to up the calories) but do you get enough protein, etc.?

Oh, congratulations on your wedding! I got married 4 months ago. Enjoy the day and don't stress out too much getting ready!! I'm sure you look great right now.

Agreed.

On the topic of "starvation mode", make sure you have a well balanced breakfast as that sets up your metabolism for the day.

thanks everyone...okay first of all, my cardio has been elliptical mostly and yes i run (well, not in the winter) so i am definitely going to start that up again!!

my typical diet:

2 hard boiled eggs/yogurt
can of tuna with crackers and salad
almonds and protein powder for snack
dinner is usually salad with chicken/veggie or fish/veggie

usually comes to 1250 roughly...

thanks again for all your help!!!!!!!!!

That's not a bad diet but you might add another snack in there somewhere which would bring you up to about 1500 calories a day which is closer to where you want to be in my opinion.

Agreed. More calories and a change in routine. You need a detailed workout plan for the next 7 weeks. One that jump starts your body and mind. Oh I am so happy that you are getting married! That's a great reason to lose weight.

Just find a plan and get started. Change your routine and def. eat more :)

Yep, 1500 would be okay for a start. You may even want to go higher as you continue to build muscle mass and therefore burn more calories. That's what I would do anyway.

thanks trainer lynn & teresa!! yesterday i started your advice and ate 1450 calories, ran for 1 hour through hills/trails (i havent run since fall) and it felt great!! this morning i went to a spinning class and then pilates (again, havent done spinning in YEARS) and then did weights. I feel great. Working hard and building muscle. it is interesting that i am supposed to eat MORE to get my body working but i'm listening to the experts. thank you!! i'm going to try this....s

I'm not an expert (Trainer Lynn is though) but I know what works for me. Starvation mode comes from back in the old days when people were truly starving. Our bodies would hold onto the remaining fat it had to survive. When our bodies feel like we may be starving them they start holding onto the fat. Makes sense to me!

Just make sure the extra calories are from GOOD foods and not peanut butter easter eggs like I've been eating today :)

Spinning kicks my butt! I love it if I have the right instructor. I think running will help lean you out. I love the way my legs look when I've been running frequently.

thanks teresa. it really is hard to realize that eating MORE will help LOSE more...but, i need to stick to that mentality as i know that the experts (trainer lynn, thank you!!) are right.

last week was my first week of upping calories to about 1400 on average for the week, i exercised different routines and as frequently (but changed cardio to running /spinning instead of elliptical) and did different weights...using ball and bands and different exercises...i weighed in this morning and it says 3 lbs heavier!??!

hmmm? i know the scale doesnt tell the "truth" always but it is confusing......we are sure here, that it is not from upping calories (i did NOT up them with negative foods - i had protein shakes or more lean protein or salads or something like that)..i felt like i did GREAT last week so now i'm confused...

it is my 'time' of the month...possibly water retention?

thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, water retention is a biggie that time of month. I really don't think adding 200 calories a day (1400 calories) in a week can cause you to gain 3 lbs. Don't worry too much about your weight. If you start not fitting into your jeans then you're doing something wrong. Weight doesn't really matter. Try to remember that :) I know it's hard!

You only gained three pounds during your time of the month?? I'm jealous! :D

Yeah, weight is not a good number to go by. Actually if you are lifting heavier you may increase weight a bit. But inches go down and body fat goes down. That's what is important, right?

Hope all works well for you. I love weddings!

ahhh. thank goodness!! i couldnt imagine adding calories (healthy ones) could put on 3 lbs. i'm hoping it is water...and yes, jeans fit GREAT and inches are exactly what matters (as much as it is hard to get used to not paying attention to that # on the scale). truthfully, i want to replace my fat with muscle so i should weigh heavier in the long haul anyways, i guess.....

thank you both - you've been very helpful! and i am so excited for my wedding!!!!!!! :)

Oh I know what you mean about the number on the scale. I weigh more than I would like but I do like my hard-earned muscle so I try to ignore the weight and just focus on my body fat.

EXACTLY what i am TRYING to do! :) it is a total different mindset but makes so much more sense!! really appreciate the support/posts.
