5 Meals - but when and what?

Hi!
I'm 17yrs old, 5'8" and 160lbs. My goal is to loose weight and get my body in shape. I have some trouble with my diet. I know i should eat 5 meals a day, but the problem is that i don't know when to eat and especially what.
I run everyday about 20 mins and do some crunches, sit-ups and pushups afterwards.
Any suggestions on how to improve it?

By the way, I usually eat like some Cereal in the morning, then lunch at school (whatever they have), and my mom cooks at night...

well to put it into somewhat of a nutshell..

You want to eat whole foods. These include foods that are not filled with preservatives and garbage. Examples being Chicken, lean meats, Rice, Oatmeal, Fruits, Vegetables, Fish, Milk, Yogurts, Peanut butter, peanuts, Eggs, Whole grain bread, wholegrain cereal, Foods with lots of fiber ect.

Foods you want to avoid are most crackers, All junk food/fast food (same thing), sugary foods, Foods with high saturated/trans fat, Frozen Juices, packaged foods ect.

Eat at least 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight. I'd say go for 1 1/2g per pound of bodyweight.
Eat 5-6 times a day, each meal containing a good amount of protein, complex carbs and good fats. It's all about spreading them out throughout the day, instead of just eating huge meals here and there. Stop eating carbs after 8pm.
If you want detailed advice for a solid fat loss diet just msg me personally and i can help you out.
Good luck :D

You should space your meals 2-3 hours apart. You'll have to bring some extra food to eat during school - either in a small cooler or lunchbox.

Stalefish has some good examples... brown rice, oatmeal (not in the packages - they're full of sugar), cream of wheat, shredded wheat or grape nuts cereal, 100% stone ground whole wheat bread, plain joghurt (sweeten it yourself with fruits or Splenda), steamed or baked white or sweet potatoes; chicken, cottage cheese, canned tuna, lean beef (top round is the leanest cut), eggs; natural peanut butter, raw nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans); fruits & veggies (especially berries and leafy green veggies). Definitely avoid trans fats and added sugars.

Include a serving of protein with each meal (at least 20g). All the meals (eat 5-7) should be roughly the same size calorie-wise. If you don't know much about nutrition info, check out for their huge database and

Do you have access to a gym or weights? Maybe at your high school or a YMCA? Lifting weights will really help boost you metabolism - I suggest you look into that.

Hey! Thanks a lot for all the advise. I'll look through the website and will make a little plan and some shopping, because we don't have all that stuff for sure =)

I guess I could work out at school, but the "problem" is that I can't drive, so I'd be stuck there everytime untill about 5.. I could do that, but I don't really want to, because it would be a huge waste of time.

NATURAL Peanut Butter

yes, it's high in calories, but it's a good source of healthy fats.
