5 meals, but I don't want to gain!

I want to start eating 5 small meals a day but I am so afraid to. It's hard for me to eat, and an average day for me would be around 1000 calories on days that I eat alot. I DON'T want to gain weight by increasing my intake, but I really want to boost my metabolism so I can loose weight. I've started drinking alot of water, and I really want to eat more to lose more.

Today for instance I ate:
B- 1/2 package instant oatmeal- 65 cal
L- 1 Cup Chicken 90 cal
Carrots and Cucumbers 200 calories?
S- Healthy Heart Bar- 160 cal
D- Cottage Cheese- 120
Carrots, 3 Cucumbers- 200
Yogurt- 40
2 Slices Chicken Breast- 200

TOTAL: 1,075 I know this is a low number, but I am trying to increase what I eat slowly so I don't gain anything. I also work outside all day so I am always drinking water. I eat healthy, but those have been my eating habits for about 1 1/2 years.

If I slowly increase calories, is that a better way to not gain weight?

uhh...i think you are highballing your calories...

to get 200 calories out of carrots and cucumbers you would have had to have eaten ALOT of carrots and cucumbers..

Also-- You NEED to eat more, what are you stats? Goals? workouts?

Also-- Ditch the instant oatmeal, get some real oats.

Stats- 15, 5'7, 135 lbs
Goals- Lose Body fat, become leaner not bulky with muscle
Workout- 6 days a week: Run 3 miles, Dumbell Exercises, 50 Lunges, 200 bicycle crunches.

Why not instant oatmeal? It's 160 calories, which I didn't think was too bad.

To be honest, I’m surprised that you are actually healthy with so few calories and so much activity.

Eat eat eat, read read read, and train. Instead of looking at short-term goals, think of your long-term health. Eating healthy and eating right is so much more than simply looking nice for the opposite sex; it is usually a factor that influences your quality of life. You will be much happier later in life when you don’t have heart disease and diabetes. Since you’re fifteen, you may not be thinking of your eating and exercise habits in those terms, but you definitely will in a few years.

By the way, there’s a lot you can do with old fashion oatmeal. Splenda, for example, makes me look forward to eating it as part of my breakfast. You can also try cutting up fruit and addint it for some extra flavor.

Molly, it's really really hard for women to bulk up. You definitely need to eat more IMO. Good luck :)

Moonbeam is right. Unless you have unusually high levels of testosterone, as a female, it is quite a bit more difficult to get bulky lifting weights.

Also, are you doing all those things 6 days a week or alternating? Make sure you are alternating your exercises and changing them up every few weeks or so. That way, you aren't doing the same exact thing over an over.

Molly, read my diary if you want to see how increasing goes. I'm not a model example but I was where you are now 3 months ago but only eating 5-600 cals a day and exercising a lot. My physical stats are similar to you as well. I started my increase at 800 and slowly added and slowly added and slowly added and now I try for 1500. I don't know how it goes for most people but from what I've heart (and how its gone for me) is that you may expect to gain a tad. If you are working out regularly and following the 5 balanced meals a day rule it won't be too much. I have gained about 4 pounds in the 3 months but I also started weights and a new running schedule to do a half marathon. Both those things put on lean muscle. My body fat has gone down 5% and I do feel healthier. I have not lost weight like I want to but I'm also not out of my starvation state so I'm trying to be patient and not get down about my body. It can take a little while, you have to be up for it and decide to go all the way. I have wanted to give up so many times. if you follow my posts you'll see all my highs and lows of frustration. All in all I'm glad I'm doing this and I know eventually my body will reset my metabolism and I can lose weight like a normal person, yet still EAT, not have to starve to death and be at the gym all the time!
You can also see my pics if you'd like. One of them I took near the beginning of it all, and a few weeks ago at 10 weeks into it I posted some more.
You are very mature for a 15 yr old, and good for you for being concerned about all of this! I wish I'd had your sense back then
