45 at 45: Getting older, wiser, and smarter

Finally back. Yesterday I was just completely exhausted after another 4 hour night, and had no motivation to do anything but stay barely awake and slog through my workday. I managed to stay on-track diet-wise, but had no energy for walking or any other exercise.

Slept in today until 11 am! Spent hours catching up on work since then, but at least with enough sleep on board, I was able to concentrate.

More sardines with a salad for dinner today.
I like tuna, but usually just use it in salads or casseroles. Hubby has fun catching salmon, but the only fish he likes to EAT is halibut and sometimes lingcod. So we've got kings, silvers, and reds in the freezer, and it's up to the kids, the cats, & me to polish it all off before it gets freezer burned (I don't remember the last time I ate canned salmon). Right now I'm boorrrrred with halibut, which is why I've turned to sardines. We've also got some black bass and a bit of pike, but ration those out because we have so little of it. If nothing else, we're probably getting more than our share of omega 3's! I'm surprised we haven't all grown gills yet.

Weigh-in day is tomorrow (ok, I guess it's technically today, but there is no way I'm weighing at night!)

Can I come over for dinner? I'll help you get rid of LOTS of that tasteless and unappreciated fish :D

Energy level is important, think "protein is energy" instead of the usual carbohydrate outlook. Carbs are good in small amounts, just take care with them.

Can you swim? Maybe catch a few more black bass on the way over ??

I'm definitely avoiding carbs as much as possible, and trying to think of protein as energy. My biggest problem this week has been lack of sleep: a total of 11 hours total spread out over 3 nights; and 30 hours total for the whole week. Not counting last night, which was 9 glorious hours, finally. Lack of sleep definitely makes it harder for me to resist the carbs. I sugar-jones'd the worst when I was the most tired. I need to maybe train myself to crave protein when I'm tired instead, since I won't be getting my schedule on an even keel any time soon. Nicotine used to keep me awake, but I can't use that any more.

Remember, complex carbs can be a good thing :)

And it sounds like you're doing great! (well, ok, I could have completely done with reading about soft, squishy sardines, but, well, someone's got to like them) ;)

roflmao. Yes it was a bit much. I get really stupid when I'm overtired. 'nuff said.

Day 8: 5.8 lbs gone. Mostly water, but there must be a pound of fat in there too somewhere.
