40yld Guy searching for BALANCE…no more Come Backs!

Hello peoples,
I’m a 40 year old male and sick of “Come Backs” Although in the past I have had no problems losing weight as easily as putting it on; it would appear things are now changing as I get older. I can no longer afford to flog myself the way I would in the past to shed the kilos as doing so now only results in more medical conditions…painful ones at that. Typically as an overweight person I have no problems being upfront about depression & anxiety…talk about PURGING ? My biggest problem though…is finding a balance as once I get started I don’t seem to be able to find the off switch…although given all the micro fractures/skeletal cramps & no income for fancy doctor bills; I do believe I can see a switch that reads “Balance”

I’m a no nonsense guy but can take a joke as good as the next guy given the right circumstances. Purging is not so easy-well not for me, I tend to get too short at times… but as I detoxify I know what a much better person I can be. Honesty works well for me, just not much chop on political correctness. I find it hard to discern between those who never seem to lose any weight yet propose to have all the answers and others that weigh in like a chicken still looking to lose their feathers?

Fantastic plastic…I guess it’s everywhere these days…OK …so if you’re still reading me…I started walking a few weeks ago. The Sun has been fantastic here in Australia this time of year…my skin has been yearning for it! I have slowly started eating healthy again and now find myself “Jogging/trotting” on my treadmill without incident…no impact damage folks (but that’s just for me and last year it killed me) I suffer from reflux & find it is also improving with my new weight loss regime…I’ve also started taking a low reflux fish oil tab & about to start taking some apple cider to help out as well. I even went to the dentist like for the first time in EONS! (Thanks to my grandmas legacy God rest her sole) People are so lucky to simply talk care free about “their” Doctor & or Dentist treatments…if only some of us had a ¼ of their luck/brains. Good luck to em they earnt it! Sorry purging again.

Brain Power……ever heard of Brain Sync…Fantastic Stuff…not for everyone, but excellent for those sensitive to meditative therapy (music/sounds). Bio Feed Back technology…Vibrations/resonation/frequencies and all that- Just Google” Brain Sync Kelly Howell” It helps me to sleep/eat & exercise. Like any kind of therapy I give it a break from time to time so as not to wear its effect out.

I’m into growing Herb’s & Veggies as well as eating and using them-Organics is a big thing with me as well. Other hobbies include Astronomy/Computers/Bushwalking/photography/Nature & much more…don’t want to give too much away hey! It’s pretty important sometimes to act like some else in these places hey…say just the right thing…come across the right way…YEA…looks like I got plenty of purging to do ?

Excuse the candid attitude…now you know me…hope I can keep the journey going and encourage others. Being overweight sucks and hopefully I can find a balance “somewhere in here. No offense intended-Just ranting guys.

Later
Dave

Welcome to the forum.

I am sure that you have finally worked out that what is needed is not a diet which is pretty much by definition short term to get you to goal - but a lifestyle change that is going to last for the rest of your life. Anything shorter than that tends to have people going around in circles acting like a yo-yo - taking x pounds off and putting them back on again when the diet ends... I was older than you when I worked it out and was able to stick with it - and had a much bigger weight problem - so I can tell you that it works great for those of us that are "over 40".

First things first is to build your support network - so start a diary in the diaries section, see who visits and visit them back in their diary... Visit a few diaries yourself. Other new people will probably be also hoping to make friends - so diaries which have been updated recently but do not have too many entries may be a good bet... Another great way of making friends is to join in clubs and challenges. Generally - the more that you post - the more you get out of the forum...

As for what to do - we have some great sections on nutrition and exercise here - which are well worth studying... Each section (including even the newcomer section) has some great sticky threads which are well worth reading. They really help people get up to speed...

Get a free account from , set up your profile information and log your food and activity. That will show you your calorie balance which is the weight loss that you deserve... It also shows you the break down of the nutrients in your diet - which allows you to hone your diet (from information that you learn in the nutrition section) so that it is optomised for both weight loss and good health.

Good luck with your project.

Sounds like good advice…you got me pegged at Yo-yo…hopefully I can learn walk the dog.:) Hehe…I’ll check out the diary thing and try to encourage as well. I don’t trust the BMI factor as it does not take into acount bone density & muscle mass, but I will be sure to check out that link you put in. Thanks for the acknoledgement & tips.
Have a good one,
Dave
:waving:

Thanks for the welcome..I'm getting ready to go through all those questions in the diary section for an honest aproach to what works and does'nt for me. I seem to of gotten into a steady pace that can handle bursts of intinsety that does not end up in injury unlike last years efforts. Thanks again for the encouragement. :gnorsi:
PS...I have a ticker lined up to go, but having trouble loading it up? Can anyone please help?I searched the forum and follwed the advice to copy the BBcode from ticker factory into the main text box in CP edit sig, but nothing is happening...allow bbcode is ticked? I am usually ok with this stuff. It shows in the CP preview screen? Must be a number of posts thing.

There isnt a number of posts thing. I assume that you saved your signiture. You should be able to preview the ticker in the preview window at the top...

Oh ok Omega...sorry for the laps in brain power there, but could you please be more specific as to where this "Preview Button" is? Do you mean to say I need to activate somthing in order for it to show in my sig with every post like yours does, or, I have to hit some kind of preview button in order to see my ticker? Glad to know it's not a number of posts things...geeze I hate that...heheheeeeee LOL...Purges again:ack2: Edit OMG...& now it decides to work...I'll be...now that's what I call service. I really have no idea...I guess the term, "don't worry about it" comes to mind here.

Cheers.
