40lbs By June 2011-Looking for a little Advice

I am 26, 5 foot 3, 166lbs, body fat 37.7%
I am looking to lose 40lbs by June of 2011. I am eating healtier and cleaner. I am coutning calories and drinking tons of water. I just started at the gym yesterday. On my gym off days I am wanting to walk and was wondering how many miles a day should I shoot for? I have a 13 month old I will be pushing in a stroller. What are some other things that I can do to maximize my weightloss? Thanks

The number one thing you can do to maximize your weight loss is calm down. You have given yourself a reasonable, doable time frame which is great. Stick with that time frame for a slow, steady rate of loss. That way you won't burn out so easily nor will you get frustrated with a lack of visible results

You seem very excited about this right now. That is totally natural and understandable. Problem is, this excitement makes you want to do more right now than you are going to want to be doing in, say, January.

If you want to use the extra energy you have, great, just don't make that your routine. If you feel like walking on your off days, then walk on your off days because you feel like walking. Don't incorporate it into your weight loss plan and give yourself a required distance.

Know that the energy and enthusiasm you have right now will not last and plan accordingly.
