40 & Going Backwards...Grrrrrrrr

Hi all...forgive my spelling...another of literate here on his iPhone :)
Well I used to be a pretty active guy...into body building over the years way back with weilder spring kits & all. I love running and was quite an athletic in my day...Arrrrrrr them were the days. I was doing pretty good through my 30s as well...however as 40 was creeping up on me, I began to feel less inclined to hit the exercise as I would when the killos had me feel the need. My once over exuberance seems to have disapeared & is now replaced with despair.

I tried weightloss forums, but find them all to often full of well intentioned people, who'd be lucky to tip the scales at 60Kg wanting to loose more weight!

I've started looking into self help forums, but fear I'll create a problem that does not exist!

So I have decided to just bite the bullet...come to a place where I can simply get support exercising...with a bit of luck, if I can keep it up, I'll loose weight for my impending operation (gall bladed)--lift my spirits & keep my job.

It sucks being unfit & getting older just makes it harder. Hopefully l can look back on this post and see had far I've come after putting in the hard yards...:)

My view of 40 is totally opposite of the original poster. I just turned 40 and am in the best shape of my life. I'm not depressed. I'm happy. I look forward to the many challenges that lie before me in life and can approach them with hard-earned wisdom.

Newton had it right...a body in motion tends to stay in motion. A body at rest tends to stay at rest. The choice is truly yours. Watch TV or get off the couch. No one else is going to workout for you. No one else is going to "make" you feel happy. No one else is going to provide you the motivation. Ask yourself these two questions: What will it cost me if I don't make this change? What will I gain if I do make this change? Think about it before answering.

Good luck on your journey.

Welcome! I turn 50 in June and am doing a half Ironman (70.3 miles) with Flyinfree, another member who is 40, in April. My half Ironman is 1 year and 1 day after I had open heart surgery to replace my aorta and aortic valve.

If you been by original poster "Me" LOL my Name is Dave...& I am here looking for support, not a roasting Sergent...salutes :)

People who have lost their fitness tend to get weighed down with depression and so forth, so forgive me if I don't suddenly snap to it...now I hope you have a sense of humor here, as I am really just trying to to think of reason to stay rather then decide if I am getting of the couch.

Obviously I am off the couch, or I would not be here so forgive me if I take offense to you welcoming approach. Then again, it's no doubt the way you do things and your way of helping........I guess us unhealthy guys are tooo sensitive as well...hopefully this will change.

Thanks all the same...50 hey! I have no doubt it can be done...you must of been keeping fit for some time now...full credit to you all.

Thanks for the welcome guys!...I'll cheer up soon enough.

I'm off to hit my treadmill...I should think myself lucky to have one.

Feeling better already & still just walking.

Thanks...I'm starting to feel better already& I'm still just walking. Hopefully I don't end up with an ego like I sometimes do when I go buff...all about ballance from here on in. Shame it's taken me 40 years to realize that.

Hey NorCalJeeper, your emote there reminds me, that May15th marks 2 Years since I gave up smoking!!!!! Best thing I have ever done.

The power of the will can instill much heart skill.

Consistency in diet and fitness can erase many years of noncompliance.

The past is just a moment already done.

The present and future is in your will and heart.

So let it be done.

No luck involved.

Its all you.

Best wishes and welcome to the forum,

Chillen

Thanks Chillen,
you put that in a good way! Things seem to be coming together well. Today two of my friends approached me to start weight training. I'm heading off into the body building section to ask for tips on "Dumbbell Training" Not sure if it's the right place to be, as we only just want to use a pair of Dumbbells in our own home with cardio in between type of thing.

Obviously need to be posted in the right place...I am also open to "Body Weight Training as well...but unsure how to establish a routine.

I guess that about does it for my into...time to start posting.

Thanks again all.......No Luck.....Just will power...glad I got a boost from you all.

Cheers

You are welcome. I will be 48 years old in August this year. I make my body respond to............me......I am in control......Period. I control the contents I have control over, and thus....have the steering mechanism between my hands and two feet, and a mind to control the mouth.

Age is just number. I can not control the age process. So, I worry only about the things I have control over. Me and what I do.

Again, welcome.......ROCK OUT.

You will be surprised what is left within over 40 year olds.

ROCK ON!

Best wishes

Chillen
