4 hour body- slow carb diet- What carbs can I have?

So the slow carb diet covered in this book says to avoid white carbs, no pasta, rice, bread, cereal, potatoes.

Can anyone familiar with this diet let me know what carbs I CAN have other than legumes? Is barley ok?

It's kind of hard to say, but I'm guessing probably not. He seems only to be advocating 'carbs' that have fat and protein with them, i.e. beans and lentils. Of course, if you want to give him more $$ I hear he's got a slow carb cookbook coming out.

Here's my opinion on it - the biggest advantage of cutting out all the carbs is that you cut down on the number of calories you eat. If you just replace those carbs with say, barley, then you may or may not eat more calories than will cause weight gain.

Personally, I'd eat the barley in place of some of the beans and see if you lose or not. Or actually track your calories etc.

Then again, I'm somewhat confused by the 'slow carb' idea when some of the 'ok' slow carbs like beans have a higher GI than say, pasta. Then again, I can only eat so many beans without worrying about ugly gas, whereas the pasta it's a lot easier to eat more of ;) So YMMV.

Welcome to the forum. I'd suggest honestly looking around the site for weight loss tips that doesn't actually restrict the food you eat. If you are serious about weight loss, it needs to be something you do for the rest of your life. Is this 4 hour diet (hate that word) do that? I wish I had the answer for you but I disagree with this 'diet' in the first place. I hope someone can help you who has read this book in depth, I just hope you take some time to read some of the stickied posts on this site. It could help you.

I wish you well and good luck! If you need anything else, let us know.
