Hello there,

I am very determined on losing weight...and I wanted to see if I am off to a good start. Slowly I would like to build up my endurance but as of now I am working out almost everyday of the week. I do about 30 mins of cardio followed by 3 mile walk and although I dont count calories I have been eating less and much better choices.

Is what I am doing enough? Anything I should add? Maybe take it up a notch? Any suggestions, advice, etc. I will greatly appreciate.

:hurray: Thanks so much and good luck to everyone on their journey!!

as long as your calories in dont overthrow your calories out you should be good....cardio cardio cardio....that all you need to worry about just keep doing what your doing and you will see results

no luck needed mamacita :D just hard work and dedication and you can knock this out...just stick with it and dont give up

That's really good. :)

I would say that as you can, start adding in some body resistance work and even some weight lifting. Cardio helps to burn calories, but for maintaining your lean muscle, you need to work the muscles. Everyone is capable of different things at different weights - for example, even at 247 lbs I could squat and do lunges.

I'd look into adding some things like squats, lunges, pushups (even against a wall or a tabletop if you can't do full ones at first), dips, etc. to your routine.

Great thank you! Well...I have comcast and they have a exercise section so I choose a different work out every morning, some do include some pretty intense stuff lol. They have a lot of squats and lunges...and other things I'm just not too familiar with the exercise terms quite yet. All I know is I can feel the burn! :hurray:

I guess slowly I will become better at doing them. I really love walking, and maybe after a bit of weight loss I'd like to start jogging. I am def going to look into getting some baby weights for now =)

You really will get better and more confident with them as you do them.

If you're stuck on what things are or how-to, definitely do a search on youtube for the various exercises. There are a lot of good videos that will show you the technique. Not *all* of them show great form .. but you can always rely on Mark Rippetoe's videos for good information.

Picking up some weights, if you can is a great idea. If you can afford it, I'd suggest a set of dumbbells that have adjustable weights. I think you can get a set from Target for around $40. That way you're not limited to the "baby weights" forever. Trust me, you will move out of the baby weight range very quickly when you get started ... :)

Oh those are some great ideas! So along with that exercise do you think counting calories is necessary? If so...what would be the right amount to set as far as it being appropriate for my height and weight...any idea? I just cant wait to see results, I'm so excited! Thank you again for all your great advice =)

I'm glad I can help. :)

I personally am a big believer in counting calories, so I'd say yeah, stick with that.

I'd say at your current weight you could probably eat around 3000 calories a day and still lose weight, especially if you're adding in exercise. Obviously as you start to drop, you'll want to re-asses that number, but it's a good starting point.

Make sure that the calories you're eating are healthy - lots of veggies and fruit, lean protein (especially if you're going to start using weights - protein is important), complex carbs (things like whole grain bread, oats, and so forth), and healthy fats (olive oil, nuts and seeds, and so forth).

I use the dailyplate.com to log my meals and keep track of what I'm eating ... but there are tons of sites out there that will do the same and registration is free on most of them.

100% necessary
If so...what would be the right amount to set as far as it being appropriate for my height and weight..you totally need to talk to a nutritionist about that one

my journey has been up and down but i am MUCH bigger than you over all i have lost almost 300 pounds but here recently got married and am back up about 40 pounds...now that the honey mooning and endulging are over we are back in the gym and i lost 5 pounds this week :D that why i encourage you to not give up...time will pass regaurdless so lets take advantage of it

Congrats on the exercise and committing to getting healthy! That's the first and hardest step!

Kara and Disciple are giving you great advice!

One simple thing that I have found that really helped me is drinking water in excess. I find at least for me that as long as I was drinking a lot of water a day it seemed a bit easier to loose weight, plus I always felt much lighter and healthier because you are constantly flushing your system. Also if you drink tons of water 4-8 bottles a day you won't ever have to worry about dehyrdation during exercise and it curbs your hunger!

Awesome. Thanks! I love water, so I can definatley implement more of it! So far I've lost a few pounds so yayy! Thank you all for the support =)
