WOOOOOOO!
Weighed in today at 250 lbs, my starting weight was 266.
My short-term goal is to get to 247 which puts my BMI in the Obese section rather than M**b**ly (hate that word!) obese!
Hurraaaahhhh 16 pounds down!

Well done - it is great that you have lost over a stone.

You are so close to type 2 obesity - you will hit that milestone really soon. I loved getting there too. "Type 2" is so much nicer than the "M" word.

What sort of exercise are you doing? I do lots of walking - but I started off just going round the block. In my experience you do not have to walk nearly as fast as the experts imply to get great benefit from walking if you are on the big side.

Take care

Thankyou! I really hate that word lol it sounds so..dramatic!!
So far I've been doing ab crunches, jogging around my back garden and increasing by one lap every other day and skipping with a rope. I used to run when I was younger so I'm trying to get back to that level of fitness again!
My long-term aim is to lose 60 pounds by christmas but I find it easier to work in short-term goals so I don't de-motivate!! How long did it take you to build your walking distance up?

Holly :) x

Also! I just noticed your ticker, what a massive achievement!!!!! 26 lbs to go!!! Good for you!!!!

Hi Holly

Thanks for your congratulations on my weightloss.

We all hate the "M" word. I still dont like it because my husband has a BMI about 54 (he is about the size that I was when I started).

I am a firm believer in milestones - and I celebrate them all. I celebrate half stone boundaries, 10 pound boundaries, nice number of pounds lost, changes in BMI, changes in clothing size. They are all well worth celebrating in my opinion.

You have to know that I was pretty big (about 21 stone) for over 20 years. Anyway when I got my BMI down to under 30 and was no longer "obese" I was so amused by the situation that I spent over a week giggling and saying to my husband "I am overweight". I thought that it must have looked odd to people - a clearly overweight (like a pound short of being obese) woman giggling and saying "I am overweight".

A couple of weeks ago I had a big celebration when I halved my start weight getting from 21 stone down to 10 and a half stone. I am going to celebrate 150 pounds lost and BMI normal soon too! We need all the celebration to keep motivated.

I am lucky as I am not working so I am able to go out walking every day. I started my walking from a zero start. Prior to me starting walking I would have an almost zero daily stepcount - I only left the house one day a week to go by car to Tescos to get the groceries in. I started off by walking 0.6 miles round the block and built it up from there. I did that for a few days and then I went a bit further - as far as the local shop. After a couple of days I stretched it again. Looking at my records - after about 50 days I was going for a morning walk that was 4.3 miles long. I built it up further than that over time - walking further and adding extra afternoon walks into the mix.

I concentrated on distance and not speed - but have found that as I got fitter I naturally speeded up. It has made a major difference to the success of my weightloss project.

I recently was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery - I was so fit that everything went very well. On release from hospital I was told to build up my walking from scratch. I was released from hospital on the Saturday - and am pleased to say that on the Tuesday I exceeded 10,000 steps. I have exceeded 9 miles per day since the Monday of the following week. I am still walking reduced distances compared to before surgery.

Take care

How fantastic. You truly are an inspiration. If only England had someone like Oprah I guarantee you'd be on there talking about how far you've come! (I doubt Jeremy Kyle does anything other than cheating spouses and DNA tests haha!)

I loved your excitement about being 'overweight' I feel thrilled to just be obese right now hahaha! I put on A LOT of weight at uni, roughly 2 stone for every year I was there (3) that had a massive effect on my fitness levels and only recently have I managed to get up my own flight of stairs without panting for breath. At almost 22 (I turn 22 on the 24th of this month!) I figured I'm waaaaay too young to be having these sorts of problems.

Right now I'm doing daily laps around my garden, starting off by walking and then increasing to 4 consecutive runs (works out at about 1 minute of continual running). I hope to build that up and up until I can go around the block etc..

I'm really pleased that you managed to have such a successful surgery, that's what it's all about at the end of the day, making sure your body is fit enough to cope with just about anything :) CONGRATS TO YOU.

hay there well done on such an great weigh loss so far you are doing really great! i will be a long time before iam where you are now :)

I bet it won't take you as long as you think it will! The benefits of being bigger are you see a noticeable change quickly the more you exercise!
Good luck to you :)

Thanks :) i hope it doesnt take really long, i calculated that if i lose 1lb a week it will take me 3 yrs to lose all the weight i need! :svengo:

It is great that you are building up your exercise. In my experience that is definitely the way forward. If you retain focus and really keep up and build the exercise you will probably be at or near goal before your 23rd birthday. It really isnt a long time if you think back to your last birthday.

I have just checked my records and
16th May 2007 I weighed 18st2.6
16th May 2008 I weigh 10st7.0
- i.e. I have lost 107.6 pounds in the past year.

You can do this!

I hope that things are going well for you.

Unfortunately not so good...
Had a few weeks of bad news resulting in me having to look for a new job whilst doing jury service.
Nightmare.
Put more or less everything I lost back on so I'm starting from square one again!
How are things with you?
