After reading many of your diaries I've become more motivated than ever to share my experiences with you. It feels great to have people who can relate and be a source of motivation.

I'm 5'11, I used to weigh 165 just about three years ago. I started smoking, stopped exercising, drank heavily, and depended on fast food to stay alive. I've failed to lose weight in the last six times I joined a gym and dieted but this time I think I'm actually on track for once.

It's a bit late into my training but here's a summary of what went on in the last few weeks. I started on the 2nd of March at a gym. I weighed exactly 257.3 lb. Today, 18 days later, I clocked in at 241.8 lb.

I exercise around 3 times a week with a personal trainer for an intense 20 minutes of weights and drills followed by cardio, I've cut fast food entirely, including soda, white bread, rice, pasta, etc. I eat grilled meat, fruits and vegetables during the day and have a light dinner at night.

During my first session my coach asked me to do 20 push-ups. I was weaving after doing 3, I felt dizzy and weak. Today, for the first time in years, I can hit at least 40 without grunting in pain. It felt really good, inspiring.

I plan to post my results and experiences as often as possible and I hope you guys can leave me comments, suggestions, advice, and even criticism!

I look forward to reading your diary. You and I are very close in age and have a similar amount of weight to lose.

Hey Cory, I'm glad we met! It'll be interesting sharing ideas and goals. Thanks for stopping by!

Hey there! Welcome!!! Hopefully you will be very happy here as I have been since joining! I see you're down about 16 pounds since you've started! That is incredible! Keep up the hard work! I cannot wait to read about your further successes :)

Thank you Trusylver and Camila! I've been very upset with my weight for the past couple of years and I feel like I'm finally doing something about it. I did have somewhat of a relapse and gained a pound yesterday. I ate somewhat unhealthy food since I wasn't able to be at home and we were out as a group. The iSandwich fresh place was closed the one time I really needed it! Nevertheless I won't look back, as long as it takes I'll make sure I hit my goal in the near future.

Welcome to the forums, nice to meet you! You certainly sound determined which is a requirement for all of us to reach our goals! Don't worry about the food you had yesterday. It happens to all of us. Just keep doing what you're doing and all will be fine. Besides, I really don't think one day of "bad" food would make you gain a pound overnight. It's probably water weight, especially if there was a lot of sodium in your meal. Good luck reaching your goal! :)

Thanks for the tip Mandy!

I've decided not to weigh myself for the rest of this week. I started with supplements two days ago, I'm using protein that only has 1.5g of fat and around 3.5g of carb with 22g of protein per serving. I'm also using creatine since my workouts require strength and endurance. After my workouts I mix L-Glutamine with my protein shake. All in all, using these supplements has helped me keep my stomach from grumbling with only 117 calories a scoop, mixed with water of course. I feel much better health wise and I've seen and felt improvement when it comes to rigorous exercise and weight lifting. I'd like to start doing some more cardio on the days that I don't work out on and I think I will when ever I get a break from my exams.

Sounds like you have a great system. I've thought about adding a protein supplement but haven't gotten around to it yet. Seems very convenient! I admire your dedication to your health!

There are people here who weigh themselves daily, but I tend not to do that. It can play tricks with your mind. I think it's good you're waiting until the end of the week.

Thank you Camila and Cory. I find it unsettling to check your weight every day, especially since I'm gaining muscle which will obviously move my weight around. I'm looking at the positive side and giving myself time to get used to the healthy lifestyle, the results will show eventually and then I can learn more about my body and where to go from there.

I agree on the weighing yourself everyday. I prefer to do only 1-2x/week that way I'm not discouraged/frustrated by a gain, no matter how small.

Also, you're losing weight AND building muscle at the same time so you may not be losing the poundage as fast as you hope. When my husband was in high school, he dislocated his knee and gained a lot of weight. He was 230 lbs at 16. When he was moving again, he worked on losing the weight first. He dropped down to 152 before working on building that muscle mass.

Belindar,

I thought about burning the fat at first and leaving the muscle for later, but I found an opportunity in burning more fat while gaining muscle. I suppose it wouldn't have been a good idea for your husband to lift weights with a bad knee but 152 pounds is tremendous and admirable! My main goal is to look and feel better, I recently learned a lot when it comes down to weight and it wouldn't bug me if I only lost half my goal but looks great and built a lot of muscle. Either way, my goal is to be fit and hopefully I'm on the right track. :)
