Hey,

It's my first jaunt into a forum / community for weight loss, but i am told it worked and this place seems great.

Ok, well i am a 22 year old guy 6ft 4 and weighing in at around at 325. I want to loose around 100lbs. Now i know this could take years but i want to start, getting below 300lbs would be a major achievement health wise, i think.

I really want to shed some of this weight, i am not mega depressed about it or anything, its just time to start acting like a responsible human being and stop treating my body like a landfill.

What would anyone suggest to start with exercise wise? I am thinking more walking, as running would play havoc on my joints at my current weight. What would be the ideal weight to start running? As when i was younger i was really into running, but it' something I've let go since i left school.

I am also really interested in boxing, but is this something i should get into at my current weight or wait until i have shedded a few pounds by walking / light cardio first?

Any help / advice is much appreciated. I have just been reading all the before and after posts, and wow you guys have done really well and are quite inspiring. I hope to have mine up there soon.

Welcome. :)

Your first question involves exercise. I don't think that is the best thing. If you are 300+ lbs... actually, at any weight, nutrition should be your primary concern.

Exercise sits in the backseat when comparing its role in weight loss to nutrition's.

So first, how/what are you eating? Have you started to change your eating habits? How do you think you ultimately should be eating in order to lose this weight?

Figure this stuff out first, then worry about exercise. For now, start some low intensity cardio. Walking, stationary bike, elliptical, swimming.... something that is low/no impact.

Eventually, you should work in some weight training. Do you belong to a gym? Do you plan on joining one?

Boxing is certainly something you could do at anytime. Personally, I would want to build a level of fitness before I start.
