200lbs to go

I have had issue's with my weight since I was about 7 years old, I would say small but that would be a lie as I was 5' 9" by the age of 12! I have tried and failed several times to lose weight. This time though I mean business.

I have 2 boys who I want to see grow to be men, unlike my mother who died from cancer before I was 25, which may have been prevented if she hadn't been overweight. I already have high blood pressure and am on medication to control it, but I could really do without having to remember to take it everyday, seeing as I already miss it most days and I've been taking them for 5 years.

My husband isn't as supportive as he could be and refuses to eat most foods apart from what I call processed crap, vegetables are a no go food stuff.

We'll that's me and I hope to keep this thread going until I finish losing my weight. I currently go to a slimming club called Slimming World, which allows unlimited quantities of certain foods and then smaller weighed quantities of other items. So far I have lost 2lb of the 200lb so there is now just 198lb to go!

You're off to a good start...

Just take it day by day and you will get to where you want ot be.. Consistency will be your best friend...

it takes 28 days to build a habit, so start by making one change at a time - and you will have a new habit built rather than trying to make 100 changes at once.

For instance - up your water drinking, or go out for a 30 minute walk every day... or keep track of your daiily calories every day.. for every 28 days give yourself a great reward...

it's taken me 21 months to lose 196lbs with diet and exercise changes and nothing dramatically different- so it can be done...

Hi there at the moment I'm attempting to take it weigh in by weigh in... at least then I only have to wait 7 days, am planning a reward for each stone mark! (And that is where people will realise that I'm british!)

Today has been a bad emotions day, but I have managed to keep on top of it thank god I had something organised.

That is is what it is going to take I think... a lot of organisation. Today I was surrounded by my diet buddy's (both of which only have about 7lb to lose) were eating chocolate biscuits by what seemed to be the fistful which didn't sit too well with me at the time. But alls better now I've had chance to vent by shouting at the nxt door neighbours chickens!

It weigh in day on Thursday so I've not got long to wait before I see how I've done this week!

Organization and pre-planning will help out immensely... and in time, not a lot of time really, it becomes easy and doesnt seem like a lot of work...

Shouting at chickens :) do they even listen? :D

No but their not mine so it doesn't count, and no doubt if I shouted at the children it would be classed as some kind of abuse!:smilielol5:

This is true, one of them has just turn 2 and the other is only 6 months old so you can't expect too much!

OOh I'm looking forward to tea now, a huge cheesy pasta bake and chips, and not a syn in sight yey... may even polish of the toffee pud that I made too mmmm with a banana and a yoghurt and still I'll only have had 4.5 syns...

sometimes I do love slimming world... honest!

it's short for synergy... but basically any thing that isn't counted as a free food (fruit, veg -pasta and potatoes on a green day- meat on a red day) a healthy extra (milk cheese -meat on a green day- potatoes and pasta on a red day) is classed as a syn so chocolate cakes and processed food all have a 'syn' value.

It's a way of keeping calorie consumption down without having to know what the calorie value is and you can have upto 15 syns each day (for example a snickers bar is 16 a hershey's nutrageous is 14 syns)

Hope that helps

Grrr  not happy all I want to do is buy some under wear... but because I am a uk size 28 can I hell as like get any... unless I want them to go up to my boobs and in white.... not a chance in hell but I am not going to hit the fridge... not quite yet anyway it's nearly bedtime after all!

Hi Tabitha

There are quite a few Brits on the site. I dont know which one's you have met yet.

Sarah (Rah) and Becky (ILikeMyUserName) both go to slimming world so you can discuss all sorts of things like red days and green days and syns and get opinions instead of queries.

Angel is also a Brit.

At the start of last year I was between UK size 30 and 32 so I can understand your lack of enthusiasm about Evans' stock.

Sometimes the internet gives a slightly wider range:

Have you tried Simply Be

Since I have been losing weight I have been getting some things from bravissimo which certainly can deal in larger cup sizes (I am now 36J).

Take care

Thanks for repling so far I've only found you, but I will now go on a bit of a hunt! Usually I get stuff from marks and spencers but as an odd shaped fatty with no arse I have huge problems keeping trousers and other undergarments on! So have to drop down a few sizes!

Also on the rant front, its really good all the shops jumping on the plus size band wagon, but why don't they also do underwear and nightwear? Half assed job me thinks!

:banghead:

It is now over 20 years since I got very big - and back then M&S never went above size 18. I have been in Evans clothes for the past 20 years - and hadnt actually ever realised that any shops had started to go up into the big sizes - maybe they didnt get as high as 30 though! - I dont know. I am only now shrinking to a size where other shops would work for me and would like to lose more weight so am only buying the barest minimum.

I am wearing size 16 knickers from Tescos - and could not believe how cheap they were. White plain basics were fine for me as I am just wearing them to walk each day and do tons of exercise in my efforts to drop at least another 3 stone.

There is nothing wrong with the concept of buying different sized clothes to accomodate different parts of you. I do that all the time.

Try not to worry too much about it as your shape will soon be changeing so much that the clothes will be too big on you anyway.

Take care
Best wishes

I try not to, but I am a naturally pessamistic person! I'm attempting to be more positive and have post-its all over the house saying I can do it... which I am trying to live up to and visualising being successful before I get up and before I go to bed, which I think is starting to help.

Yesterday's narkedness kicked in after my skinny mates decided that we would all be going skiing for one persons birthday and clothes shopping at the metrocentre for another... which means I have some really hard work to do to get to a size where I can fit into high st shops... not an easy job at all.

but as I said... I Can Do It! :Angel_anim:

Another day down, another iffy one emotionally... Food is fine not really an issue as there is plenty I can eat at the moment and actually aren't sick of... hopefully I won't tire too soon of veggies as I think those are making the difference eating a 'proper' lunch with the kids seems to stop me snacking in the afternoon, which is always good. Seeing as most of the week there are cakes and biscuits on offer at all the mother and baby groups, so I have a breakfast/cereal bar hidden in my bag just in case.

After the debacle of attempting to buy underwear online I disappeared to the nearest Asda this morning and bought (horror of all horrors) some evil nasty looking belly button warmers, they stick out for miles above my jeans but at least they stay up unlike the rest of the ones in my drawer that were massacred during my pregancy with Daniel! Not happy but at least I won't have to wear them for long and it was only £3 ($6) for 5 instead of £10 ($20)for 3 which can only been seen as a saving.

Only 3 days left to weigh in on Thursday... I have a good feeling about this one!

Tomorrow is weigh in day... so at 5.30 I will find out just how my body has responding to getting back on the plan... at the moment I don't feel too hopeful, but I don't know if that is just me wanting too much. Or just the usual pessamistic me rearing it's ugly head.. I would just really like to have a big drop this week to spear me on and get me closer to the first 1/2 stone which last year took me about 2 months to get.

Hi Tabitha

I am sure that you will be fine. Focus on being strong because you really want this more than you want to eat ...whatever it is that is tempting you.

So you may go shopping at the Metrocentre. Does that mean that you are in the north east. Where are you? I am a geordie.

I eat tons of snacks. I go through boxes of honey shreddies. I get a handful out and put it on a plate and nibble my way through it like it was a bag of crisps.

Grapes make a brilliant snack. I often get a small bowl of grapes and work my way through it.

I havent noticing you mention drinking water. It is a really good idea - and can make a difference if you are hoping to see a loss on the scales to encourage you to continue. It might sound silly but a lot of people are like I was and addicted to the likes of diet cola. Even though it has basically no calories - it seems that it contains all sorts of chemicals and things that do not help you lose weight. I try and drink 2 litres of water a day.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hi there Margaret,

I'm from the East Riding, half way between York and Hull, it's handy if you want a McDonalds or a decent takeaway as you have to drive 20-odd miles to find one!

I rarely drink water unless it is attached to a cup of coffee (albeit de-caff) and I must admit to a diet drink addiction but I am cutting down gradually, I think I like the bubbles! (very immature for a 31 year old! Ah well!)

I used to eat cereal instead of popcorn and chocolate when I went through a crap free couple of years...

Luckily the hubby is out tonight so I should be able to get a bit of exercise in which will take my mind off it?
