Hello everyone :]
Im new here, obviously. My name is Chelsey. Im 20 years old and Im from Michigan.

2008...a new start for people who need to feel as if their slate is being wiped clean. I know that every day can be a new start for some, but some of us need that extra push that makes us feel like its a brand new beginning.

In my family there is a history of diabetes, and both kidney and heart problems. Im only 20 years old, 5'7'' and I weigh in at about 390 lbs. Ive realized that Im pretty much eating myself to death. I dont do much activity throughout my day, especially now that the winter months have hit.

Id like to change all of that though. Its freezing out, since its winter..so my options of working out are limited since I cant afford a gym membership. I do have my own exercise bike though so my plan is to exercise on that daily, and work on my eating habits.

What do you guys recommend food wise and exercise wise. How much time should I spend exercising a day? If any of you could give me some advice that would be a great help

:]

welcome to the forum! you know what they say, the longest journey begins with a single step :) i think basically you just need to concentrate on small attainable goals, as otherwise if you try and tackle the whole thing at once you will get disheartened. Set yourself a realistic weekly or fortnightly goal, and dont forget to treat yourself when you make it, but dont make the treat food! something like smellies etc.
Basically you just need to consume less than your body needs. because you have quite a bit to lose you will be burning more calories than most at moment, which will work to your advantage. forget the fad diets, just eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, dont eat buscuits and basically anything with much fat, and you cant really go wrong!

with regards to exercise, i just walk. i have dogs, which helps, but walking is the best, and least boring, as you get to look at scenery, nosey in neighbours windows, hah!
new year is an excellent time to start, as you say, it is a clean sheet. keep imagining yourself 100 + pounds lighter this time next year, and imagine the kind of clothes you will fit into!
good luck :)

Hello Missbliss, or Chelsey,
Welcome to the Weight loss forum or WLF...

I am pretty much restarting my program.
I feel the clean slate thing ...
My advice, as everyone will advice, is to read the sticky threads. They give you much advice. I probably would have gotten to somewhere if I had done that at first lol ...
But Welcome and as the last poster said... keep in mind how you will look next year ... :iagree:
You will lose quite a bit of fat at first because of your size, but eventually it will slow down and there will be plateaus ...but thats what we are all here for ...support ...and help in getting through your weight loss goals ..

Your attitude is wonderful, you are sure to go far ...
You enjoy your journey to a healthier and smaller you! :)

Always
Natalie jo :waving:
