Hey guys, im Gemma but everyone calls me Coop!

Currently i weigh 285. A couple of weeks ago i tipped the scales at 300 pounds. Ive always had a problem with my weight. My biggest problem is comfort eating. Its something i have done from a very young age when i went through something pretty traumatic but now its become a viscous cycle. I have overcome what i went through and now the only thing thats really holding me back and stopping me from living is my weight and im sick of it, i need to take back the control.

Ive never been this big before, things have just got worse over the years without me even realising. My eating habits need to CHANGE because its so unhealthy and enough is enough. In september i start university, im leaving the comfort of my own home and starting a NEW life. I want to have the confidence to really grasp that new life and put myself out there and this is where im starting. I decided to join here in hope of really embracing a support group and hopefully doing the same for other people.

Fingers crossed.

:)

I wish the best to you! I know how it feels to be trapped in that cycle of eating excessively and felling like you have no control. But going to university is a great source of motivation! I like to think of it as a new, fresh start in life.

Yes Austin that is exactly how im thinking of it as, i couldnt have applied to a university further away from where i live for exactly that matter LOL.

and thank you Emerald! This forum will help to keep me going, just looking at those before and after pictures is amazing motivation!

Hiya! I understand how easy it is for things to get out of control. I've put on 2 stone in a year. I was shocked when I got on the scales last week and found I was over 20 stone! I admire you for having the confidence to go away to uni and start a new life. I wish I had done that when I was your age. Good luck!

Hey,

Hope you do well with the new life, you may find you lose weight in uni without doing to much anyway cause I hear students are always to skint to spend there money on food shopping. When you get into a routine of comfort eating it is very hard to stop, best advice I can give as always is not to buy the rubbish food in replace it with fruit and stuff so if you are going to eat for comfort it wont be so bad. Portions are also a bugger because over time your portions increase without you realising because it becomes normal to you. Start with small goals maybe cut some of the things out that you like, if you are not confident to go to a gym or anything right now try power walking or jogging until you become confident. Most of all dont worry about what other people think you do it for yourself and no one else keep telling yourself this for motivation. Best of luck

Hi Coop, welldone on your weight loss so far!
i do have some advice though, i just graduated from uni (i too am around 285 and comfort eat) i gained 2 stone while at uni. as much as you want to be healthy when your there its very difficult because you want to be social and drinking at eating becomes apart of that. these a lot of downtime so eating while studying becomes second nature. everyone i know even the very skinny people gain whats called 'the Freashman 15' in there first year because of the lifestyle change. if you genuinely want to loss weight my best advice is to join the student social clubs. (which i think you should be told about in freshers week) where they do all girl sports (or mixed) and other social activities with a healthy environment. x
