20 Pd Club

So even though my first day was awesome, my second (tuesday) was not so much. I taught an hour of Aqua-fit which was my cardio for the day and then completely and totally cheated on my diet. So I am back on the ban wagon today, as it is unclear whether I will be able to workout or not today I will be aiming for 1200-1400 calories (and hopefully a workout in there).

Hey guys, are you still going strong?? Let's hear how you are doing

I am doing great! I have been going to the gym everyday for at least an hour an eating well. I have lost 6.5 lbs so far in about 2 weeks! I am really starting to have some positive changes and I hope you guys are as well.

So something strange is happening... I have lost 2 inches off my waist, 1 inch off my calfs, and 0.5 inches off my chest (over 3 weeks), but I have GAINED 2 lbs. How is this possible?!?!?!?! I am shrinking and growing at the same time? I haven't gained inches anywhere to explain this! I have been doing alot of muscle building, but I always thought it was a myth that you could gain weight that way. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Anybody have an explanation?

The only thing I can think is that it is muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat so even though you are looking better the scale says otherwise. Remember the scale doesn't matter if you are losing inches!

If you don't think this is the case.. maybe it is water weight or you didn't measure the exact same way?

I have been doing pretty bad the last couple of days. I'm pretty disapointed but I know I'm gonna get back to it!

I have been doing badly myself. I'm still at 150. This week has been a bad one. I am trying to get back into it.

still hopeful

So far so good for me. I am eating right and exercising daily. The weight isn't exactly dropping off, but I am going to stick with it. I know that giving up wont help matters

Hey guys, it ok!!! We'll get there!!! Just keep your chin up and think Happy, POSTITIVE thoughts!!

Hello, All,
I am brand new here - and I am desperate to lose 20 pounds. I am sedentary - hardly move. I am 5 ft, 130 lbs, never had to diet - stuck around 110 lbs my whole life. Why? I ran around like a crazy woman. Still a crazy woman, but i don't run when I can walk anymore - so I have added a 20 pounds that, given all fat, no muscle, and gravity - looks HORRIBLE. My butt is truly 1/3 of my entire body. I know that I will count calories and will walk every day, but what I need is support. I hate to exercise. I get big welts on my legs and my skin inches when i run. What is that about? I live in Scottsdale, AZ, so it is HOT.
I joined Jazzercise, but don't go. I have a need for a friend - or a few!
Any help? Is this where I belong? Need more info?
Thank you for whatever help you can give me!
My job is sitting in front of a computer all day long.

my skin inches when i run.

The same thing happens to me, mostly in colder weather - I'm talking about <70 F. Actually, it was pretty bad in the 50-60 F range, and its been a while since I've ran in less than that including freezing temps, but I itched a lot then too. So, my guess is, its something to do with the cold and warming up during/after your run. If you're talking about when its warm, well, I guess I've felt a little itching then as well, but not nearly as bad. Could have something to do with the way your skin vibrates when you run.

Anyways, I was reading this topic because I'm trying to motivate myself to lose my next 20lbs. Currently, I'm around 320, so losing 20 lbs should drop me down into the 200's for the first time in lets say ~4-5 years. I just starting lifting weights (I'm on my 3rd week), and I'm doing interval running on the treadmills, both 3x per week, and I'm contemplating adding in some moderate SS cardio on the off days and/or weekends (before I started lifting, I was doing SS cardio 5x per week or more, and I'm kinda missing it). My goal is to do this by September 26th, which should put me around 298 if I lose 1% of my body weight per week. wish me luck :)

I'd love to be in this!
20 pounds lighter and I'd be my ultimate and final goal weight.
I'm taking it slow though and making sure I don't rush it.
The idea is to maintain a goal weight of course so no crash dieting :D
I'm doing the August Monthly Challenge and my goal is 10lbs, so this thread will be my inspiration and encouragement to go beyond that goal once I've reached it!

Lose 20 club & skin itching when running/exercising

Hi! I think you're right, it may have something to do with circulation - but it REALLY bothers me. My husband did not believe me until we went for a brisk walk one day, and he looked down an saw all of the welts on my thighs - It is so beyond strange ... it has occurred on and off my whole life, but for the most part not when I am "used" to exercising ... so maybe it has something to do with lack of muscle tone.
Anyway, I spent two days inputting and tracking my calories on the free fitday journal, and then I watched a late night movie and ate everything sweet I could find in the house (I know, I know, I should have tossed it) and then I was back on the diet again - but today I made pastrami on rye sandwiches for lunch - I LOVE TO EAT! I also love to cook - a very very bad combo.
So... I didn't put anything in the journal for two days. Hard to remember all of the little snacks now, two days later....
I will try.
How are you doing with your calorie intake?
I just noticed that the dates on the original post by Korrie was April - so maybe they attained their goal and moved on... are you still up for 20 pounds? Anyone else want to join us?
P:cheers2:

Hi Pony! yes I'm still working towards losing the 20lbs. Currently, I'm still trying to workout some fluctuation due to eating some high sodium crap last weekend - last saturday, I was 320.4, all week I've been hovering around 325, last night I was 328, and woke up this morning at 323. Its all good though, I know its only retained water since I haven't eaten over maintenance all week. I'm still on track to make my goal of <300 by september 26 7 weeks from now. Actually, I could still be as much as a week early.

Regarding food, I LOVE to eat as well, and until about a month ago, I didn't so much care for cooking too much. However, I started cooking about a month ago, trying new recipes every week. I look through the recipe section here, as well as searching the web for healthy, tasty meals. The most suprising thing for me is how much more satisfying it is to eat real food. I used to live on fast food, take out, and restaurants. I'd eat large portions to feel full. Now, when cooking healthy real foods, I can eat twice as much food for half the calories of take out, feel full all the time, and still lose weight! Its never been easier.

Found a great cookbook: 300 calorie one-dish meals by Nancy Huges

It was published in 1992, but I am going to try a few - I will let you know what 300 calories taste like, and publish successful recipes here.
In the meantime, I went to Costco yesterday and brought home tons of lettuce, spinach, fruit ... perhaps eating like a bunny will make me want to hop around.
Trouble is, I also brought home a gigantic package of pastrami, and one of ham.... made pastrami on rye with thousand island dressing and sauerkraut ... an old fav ...
I am trying to live on 1200 calories a day - I drink only water. But I love wine, so I hope I make it!
Now, I am going to invite 10 people over so that I have an excuse to serve all of that pastrami and ham. Oy vey
You should really celebrate your persistence with weightlifting and cardio!!!! I am so impressed!!! Keep it up! Let me know what you do each day, so that I can celebrate with you and perhaps I will begin! (I have a whole 6 station gym in my house and a treadmill I never use!)
Thanks,

So, I consider today the official kick-off day of my 20lb challenge.

I weighed in this morning at 319.8lbs, and the scale says my body fat % is 42.3%. I don't know if thats my true body fat or not, because the scale tells me fat, muscle, bone, and water percents, and somehow they add up to like 120% haha. Anyways, thats not important, its more important to see a downward trend.

So, losing 1% per week, I should reach 299.8 sometime between 6 and 7 weeks from now, or by 9/26. I'm still not sure my body has fully recovered from the junk I ate last weekend, so I might see a little more than a 1% drop this week - time will tell.

Time for the weekly update:

On saturday, the 15th, I weighed in at 313.4. I saw a bigger loss this week, but part of it was some excess water my body retained from the junk I ate the week before. This week I'm expecting a modest 3lb drop, so I should be sitting right at 310 and half way there by this time next week. I should also add that this also means I should succeed in losing this 20 lbs before 9/19, instead of the 26th like I was planning on :)

Anyone else still chipping away at the next 20 lbs?

Although I only have a relatively small amount to loose now (4 - 8lbs) I am beginning to wonder whether it is actually possible to loose these last few pounds (I have only lost 1lb in over a month) so it may take me 8 months to loose 8lbs! The fact my body isn't changing is sooo demotivating
