Hello :)
Me and my partner are looking to lose weight. We have drastically cut down on our terrible diet of junk food and takeaways and have been doing pretty well for around 2-3 weeks now. We still havent weighed ourselves as we are a little scared lol. I'm worried that we're going to fail at this again as we have tried this many times but each time we tend to slip back in to our old ways after about 2 weeks - 2 monnths. Anyway, hopefully this time we will stick to it. We're not doing anything really special we're just eating normal sized meals with more vegetables and fruit + doing small amounts of exercise. My partner has mental problems when it comes to food so that is a big hurdle which we're trying to get over together.

I hope this forum is a place that can help me.
How long has everyone been here for?
Any advice for a newbie?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

From what you've mentioned, the changes that you and your partner have introduced will continue serve you both in the longer term, not least the elimination of processed food and takeaways. By all means, don't deprive yourself of the odd treat, just don't indulge every night of each weekend.

As for your concerns surrounding failure, provided you both continually adhere to running calorie deficits between your TDEE and BMR (research BMR & TDEE calculators), weight will be lost. Stick to maintaining adequate sized portions, so that you're not over-eating and you'll enjoy success.

When it comes to your partner's problems over certain types of food, could you expand a little?

Thanks for the welcomes :)

Yes, MrNiceGuy, portion size definitely is key for us. We love our big portions. I'm doing 4-5 handfulls of uncooked pasta whereas before I would've just filled the pan up as much as possible. Its hard but it'll be worth it in the end :) I'm determined to stick to it this time - no matter what.

My partner basically displays an addictive attitude towards food. He craves takeaways especially and will not stop thinking about them. I wasn't going to, but I ordered a takeaway for him a few days ago as he was really getting stressed over it and I said it would be OK to do it once a month maybe if we have been good. It really stresses him out to the point where he will get a migraine or faint sometimes. But its not just takeaways (takeaways are just what he's worse on) but basically all food. He comfort eats and he eats to feel happy basically as a hobby (which I partly do too but not in the extreme way he does).
