1st diary

Well I had an oink day, at least I think so.

DAY 6

cappacino
1 food pack
small amount of pasta
soup with lentils
4 biscuits with mascapone
Actually maybe not quite as bad as I thought, should have left out the biscuits or at least the mascapone. There really are some amazing tasting food around.

Good idea about the potatoes. I don't eat much indian food and no ghee at all. My weakness is cheese of any kind, potatoes, butter, and white bread.

Tomorrow is another day, and I will win. I can do this. I will do this.

Karuna, where are yoooooooou?

Sorry for assuming you eat loads of indian food as your from indian descent!

Hope your still sticking to the diet even if your not posting on here. If not, you don't have to give up!

I know that you will lose the weight one day... and when you do you will probaqbly wish that you had done it sooner. So do it sooner- do it now! I know its hard at first, but please persevere!

I don't know if you cook much italian food at home, one gorgeous italian recipe i know is this... very healthy and so tasty you won't realise it!

Hi, I am here, lol.

I have been a bit crazy busy the last 3 days with catering for a seminar, Just 2 more meals to prepare for tomorrow and then I am done, I am so so tired.

By the way there is no need to apologise about any assuming, you were just helping which I really want. Thank you

My diet has been non-existent. The only thing that I managed was to continue to drink at least 2 lts water which is really hard for me but I really need to do. Yesterday I hardly ate and today I ate far too much.

I have decide not to say "I will start tomorrow" but rather to count today as day 8 and work on making progress. 2 Lts water is already an improvement.

Day 7
2 capuchinos
1 veg pie
2.5lt water

Day 8

1 capachino
2 cinamon rolls
4 apple puffs
lasagna
2.5 Lt water

Yikes I ate a lot today and to make it worse it was fat, carbs and sugar.

Tomorrow is another DAY, and I WILL make it a better one.

I'm glad your not giving up :) I think that its probably more important to write down your bad days than it is your good days. Writing it down makes it real lol. And the squirmy uncomfortable feeling of admitting what you've eaten gives you a kick up the backside i think lol. It was my birthday yesterday, and i must have eaten and drunk about 4000 calories, plus the hangover food today. I really didn't want to admit too what i ate, but, it feels like a confession. If only i was a christian and i could say some hail mary's and all the calories could dissapear lol.

I noticed that you drink quite a lot of cappuccino's, have you thought abaout just drinking filter or instant coffee with sweetner and skimmed milk instead? In a small starbucks cappuccino there are 180 calories!!!!! Compare that with about 20 calories for a normal coffee! I know that you are trying to keep your calories very low at the moment, so you could swap 2 cappuccinos for 10 bits of vegetarian sushi (spread throughout the day as you are planning on doing), or a mexican 3 bean wrap with a large salad, or a granary toast pizza (with topmato puree and a small amount of low fat cheese).

From bad to Worse

Day 9

sweet pastries (lost count)
4 cinnamon rolls
mash potatoes
rice pudding
2 cappacinos
2 coffees
mash potatoes - not a mistake, had it twice.
2.5 lts water

Yikes! This is bad. For a person who very rarely eats sweets I seem to have eaten a few months worth in a day, don't even have the excuse of it being that time of the month.

How to not be discouraged, now THAT is the question.:cuss:

yup definetly have to give up the cappuccino for coffee. Its a good idea.

I now get why keeping a diary for bad days is so important, Having to see it is shocking and I cant get over the quantity, usually I would just conveniently forget about it. I think I really have to work on being more steady in my eating. Seems to be either very little or far too much.

NOTE TO SELF - never keep pastry in the house when I am not working.

Lol - Hail mary's - I should ask my mother-in-law if thats how she stays thin.

Have you thought about planning your menu for the week, then doing the shopping straight away? If you've got healthy meals and snacks you love in your cupboards, it might be a bit easier.

How you doing? x

I think it's important to keep a diary on bad days for additional motivation. Sometimes, during weak moments, I actually do think "do I really want to publish that I've eaten that online?" and it can make the difference between eating it and not. Seriously.

It seems to me you're doing something to trigger a desire for bad food- do you feel like you're depriving yourself? Are you getting all the nutrients you need? If the answers are "yes" then "no", you need to change it up a bit. Experiment with what you're eating. Find things you enjoy and stick to them- unless/ until you get sick of them, then switch them up. I don't like the idea of "banning" things from diets- for me that's a recipe for a binge, so if you're doing that, try introducing controlled amounts back in (for me, it's a couple of squares of really nice chocolate every night or second night, or low calorie alternatives to what you're craving).

Hope this helps and things pick up soon.

Thank you both for the encouragement and advice.
I want to start from day 1 again, Do I start on this same diary or open a new one. I have been looking on sites for calorie counting, it seems that I have found a lot that charge quite a lot for their services. Amy, you have experience with this, which site would you recommend. I want to count the calories but I also want to be able to see the amount of fat, carbs ect...
I am going to start planning, usually I do a bit, but I seem to struggle the most with the cravings when I am overworked or tired after a few long days. Its would appear that my mind has the idea that if I am tired or have worked hard I need to treat myself to lots of fat and sugar.
Weird thing - I have lost 1.5kg in the last 10 days, I have no idea how, because the only good thing I have done is drink a lot of water, I am aware that I have to drink at least 2lts water when I am trying to loose weight.
So I am planning to start today with a fresh start to better eating.
Good Luck all.

This is the one I use: I've been using it since the end of March, and I haven't paid anything for it.

I actually turned off a bunch of features- it'll tell you (if you use its database- US based- or have all the information to enter for your own foods, which I don't in a lot of cases) the complete vitamin and mineral profile of foods- I disabled almost all of that because it confused me, and left it with the information provided on packets (calories, protein, carbs, sugar, fat, saturated fat, monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, sodium) plus water. (You may also need to know American words for things- so courgette= zucchini, for example) I enter my processed foods and recipes, and use the program's database for things like fruit and vegetables. It asks you to enter your food in grams, so you may want to invest in digital scale (I got mine for 10 pounds at Argos, although full price it's 15. Seriously, best 10 quid I've ever spent and if I had to replace it I'd spend the 15 in a heartbeat). I do weigh all my food, and recommend it, but after awhile I've started to get a feeling for what a certain weight of food looks like, so I could probably guess if I had to.

Other programs that people talk about here are myfitnesspal and fitday, but I've only ever used cron-o-meter.

I'd keep this diary, personally, show people the turnaround (or how you adapt to a healthier diet). It'll be good to see.

I try to treat myself in other ways. For example, I eat a lot of berries. Growing up, they were always a treat food, once in a blue moon. They're actually cheap enough for me to afford, but they were expensive when/ where I grew up so I view them as a delicacy, and enjoy them. They have somewhere between 20 and 25 calorise per serve (80g), so they're excellent for the calorie count, but they give me a psychological boost, if that makes sense. I also look at low calorie alternatives to my treats- so when I get a chip/ crisp craving, I incorporate some roast potato (the way I make it it's about 200 calories/ serve- which isn't ideal but it's better nutritionally and calorie wise than tearing my way through the crisps in Tesco) into my next meal. I know from my experience telling my brain "you can't have any..." of whatever it wants is a good way for me to go crazy and possibly have a big binge.

Congrats on the weight loss :) That's excellent.
