as the title says im 19 years old 242 pounds and I need to lose weight community college has done all it could do for me with my computer training and in order to get to the next level I need to lose weight to join the navy I have tried a bunch of diets read up on twice as many as I had tried, and now im going to try this "raw food" diet from what I know about it its all about non cooked food (or if I needed to be cooked keeping it under 116) fruits, vegetable, nuts i know this is a detox diet, but im a meat and potato guy (meat potato and milk would be a better way to say it) i would like to know if me eating chicken potato's and drinking milk will stop the "detox" affect of this diet (im only talking dinner 2-3 times a week) if 75% of my diet is the fruits vegetables, and nuts

it sounds like a normal meal plan, and I plan on eating this way, but im looking for the weight loss 1st normality 2nd so be froward here tell me yes this is ok or no you will not lose the weight if you do it this way

P.S sorry if the grammar is hard to read its 4:30 am (is insomnia affected by weight ?) and needed to get this off my chest I hope I can go to sleep now

Just curious why you would give up meat! I currently train Army recruits in Utah and they are having a lot of success. If you are training you need lean sources of protein to help build those muscles and burn fat. Have you ever tried eating every 2-3 hours to bump up your metabolism? Keep the protein with the raw foods too! I started training 5 years ago and was 150 pounds and 38% body fat. Now I competed in powerlifting at a body weight of 145 and 11% bodyfat! I have kept the weight off for 5 years now but continue to be strong and lean. The raw food diet seems great for getting in your veggies but I would hate to see you miss out on the benefits from the lean sources of protein.

By the way i appreciate you wanting to join the Navy! That is a huge accomplishment and many I look forward to you serving our country! If you need to email someone to talk feel free to email me anytime. I have been through a lot and support helps when embarking on weight loss!

If you want my honest opinion, the whole "raw food" thing is a bit of a crock. It's certainly not necessary to "detox" your body.

The thing is, if you're a meat and potatoes kind of guy and you try to switch to this extremely different and highly restrictive diet, you're setting yourself up to fail. How many days do you think it will be before you get cravings that you can't control and give up and have a steak or something like that? And once you do that, the typical mindset is "well I screwed up already so I might as well quit".

A much healthier method is to learn about healthy eating and a BALANCED nutritional plan. If, as you go along, you decide to incorporate raw foodism into your plan, great. If, at some point you decide you want to switch over to raw foodism, fine. But don't do it just as some fad "quick loss" diet. That's a sure path to failure.
