Ok guys i need some advice. Im 15 years old and i weigh 175lbs i want to get to about 150lbs. Ive recently began lifting 10lb dumbells and doing about 50 reps each arm on average(very light to me). Now i was wondering what should i do? I was thinking to get 20lbs dumbells and doing 2mile run every day.I also have another question if i do 2 miles in a short amount of time will it have the same affect as if i was doing in in a long period of time? To tell you the truth guys back in the day i was fastest runner in school i want to be that or better again. PLEAS HELP ME

if your a guy i wouldent recoment loseing weight but if your a girl just wat healthy dont eat over 30 grams of fat or sugar a day and you will lose weight

Hmm...from what I know of runners, if what you're looking for is speed, then you want to do your two miles quickly. Sprinters tend to have more muscular legs than distance runners and the muscle will help with weight loss. About how fast is your mile right now? You'll still want to average about 30min of cardio. You should probably have it alternate where you sprint for half a mile and then jog the other half since interval training is supposed to be best.

Increasing your weights is probably a good idea. You should feel like it takes some effort to get through your reps, which it doesn't seem that it does, if it doesn't I don't think you're doing much.

Absolute horrible advice

30 grams of fat = 210 calories

Fat doesn't make you fat.....Eating too many CALORIES makes you fat.

You could eat 10g of fat per day and still be obese, depending on what other nutrients you consume (carbs, proteins).

How's your diet?

Ok, guys to tell you the truth the diet stuff doesnt really work but i try a bit. I will be taking a pill that helps to make me less hungry which will help decrease in calories dramatically. I get half a mile done it 8 minutes sprinting and speed walking. Ive gained a couple of lbs 2 to be exact. i believe its from the weight training. Also just to let you know i have a thread mill and weight machine at home.

First off, DROP the pill.
You're 175, X hight, X sex, 15 years old. Replace the X's.
I'm assuming your not currently active in any sport activity's...

Now, what has been your plan of action?
How many calories are you consuming a day? What does your average meal intake look like daily?
What type of exercise are you doing and how often are you doing then as well for how long?
Are you able to get larger weights then just 10pound dumbbells? What type of weight machine do you own?
Do you have any type of physical injury, disability, condition? Such as, for example, severer asthma?

Have you been keeping a fitday.com account? If not, then start now.

I dont really have a plan. I get about 1000 calories a day. Yes i can get larger weightes. I have a york weight machine. I dont have no physical injurys, diabilites, nore conditions.

First of all, I can say at 1000 calories per day, that is definitely not enough and you'll end up slowing your metabolism down (making it harder for you to lose weight) if you keep that up for an extended period.

Using , you should be getting around 2271 calories per day to MAINTAIN your weight, assuming you get little to no exercise.

Generally, around a 2lb per week weight loss is considered to be healthy rate. As one pound is around 3500 calories, you could, for example, eat 1771 calories per day (-500 from your maintenance level) and burn an additional 500 calories through exercise for a total deficit of 1000 calories per day (not an easy thing to do actually). In a week you'll have accumulated a 7000 calorie deficit... or around two pounds. This is just a simple example, and I'm sure someone else will know more about this.

And yeah, definitely get larger weights if you're doing 50 reps per set...

Assuming, you want a chance to grow taller then 5'6. I would highly suggest you raise your calorie intake. Keep your deficient small. I would say you don't go below a 500calorie daily deficient. You're very likely to retard any type of growth eating as little as you do now.

50 reps = waste of time. Raise the weight, lower the reps. Check the basic lifts sticky.

I would suggest you start working on your aerobic conditioning. As, an 8minute half mile is absolutely horrid. That's suggest a very weak cardiovascular system.

I agree with Trevor. If you're going to lift weights, then take a rep range from 1-15 to gain muscle.

If you want to gain muscle and still have the advantages of a cardio workout, definitely include squats, deadlifts, powercleans, etc... into your scheme.
Not the sissy bicep exercises, you want fullbody exercises, that's what gets your blood flowing!

If you have no clue what these exercises are, check on google to view the instructions.

Hey DJ-Spaz,
Think of it like this when it come to weightloss.
Your body is a machine, if you thrash it it will wear out and not perform well in the long run!
My recommendation to you is to get active and stay active through out the day, get into a combination of activities that will keep your body running all day long, fuel it with only what it needs to perform, good foods at the right portions, dont eat till you are full, just guage you days activities, the energy that you require and eat accordingly. for example

Today I knew that I was going to have a 3-4hr surf from 4am so I ate a small slad with tuna before hitting the beach, after that I laid into some sushii.
But now I am just chilling out at home til tomorrow (my day off yay for me) so I will have a light dinner.
I also find that making a workout a focus activity can be tiring on people so I tend to combine things a little, while watching TV I sit on a training ball and bounce a little over several hours, sound silly, but it is a great lower back and ab workout, very low impact keeps my body burning fat, and doesnt require much in the way of focus. stay active, eat according to your needs and say goodbye to them unwanted pounds.
Doing it this way will also help yo maintain your fitness and desired weight without that dreaded rebound that comes from intense workouts to not working out.

peace
