17 Y.O. wants to get into weight training

Basically, I used to have a PT that I worked out with for about a year until last December. I mainly did calisthenic (?) exercises with some weights here and there in the routines. She always changed up the routines but kept some exercises throughout my entire time with her. The problem was that I didn't gain muscle and stayed relatively skinny and gained very little muscle, basically enough to show abs and some pecs. Now I'm 17, 6 foot and 140-145 pounds and want to go from being skinny and relatively out of shape to fit and athletic. I never really watched my diet while with her so I think that had a lot to do with my body not changing much. I'm looking for some tips on diet and a good basic routine I can start out with. Any help is really appreciated!

Training-wise, start here: http://training.fitness.com/weight-training/basic-novice-program-strength-muscle-54545.html

Diet-wise:
- Get into a calorie surplus of 250-500kcal/day. This will see you gaining 1lb every 1-2 weeks. In my experience, slower weight gain is better, so I'd stick to the lower end of that calorie range.
- Consume 1g/lb bodyweight/day protein.
- Consume 0.5g/lb bodyweight/day fat.
- Consume at least 2g/lb bodyweight/day carbs, although you'll probably need more than that to make up your calorie needs.
- Eat your vegetables. They won't directly build your muscles, but good nutrition is good for bodily function, and if your body's functioning you'll be able to train more effectively and recover more easily. Good nutrition can only benefit you.
