15lbs would be great

Hey Hey,

I want to lose 15lbs really bad. So I am posting a lot of new threads for all my questions. I have been running outdoors now for a month and I have not really seen any results. I thought if I weight lifted too it would help with fat loss. I have not started that yet, but I am planning on starting tomorrow. What I want to know is how to lose weight the quickest most efficient way. I carry most of my weight in my chest and stomach and I hate it. I am not huge my any means I just want to be a lot smaller on top. If any one can help me with any advice on the best things to do or good exercises that would be most helpful. ;)

Well, if your just looking at the number, then no don't lift weights, if your looking to add tone to your body then yes lift weights. Remember that muscle is about five times as heavy as fat. What is your height, weight, and reason for loosing weight.

While most of the stuff is pretty much the same no matter what you answere, cardio-vascular exersizes will help you loose fat the quickest, basicly, walk to the store once a day, and buy yourself a gatoraid or something. Don't forget though what the scale sais is just a number, by loosing more and more weight you may hurt yourself. if you end up 100 lbs, and 6' then there is a pretty big problem.

Well, anyway, yeah... start walking.

I am a 21 year old female 5ft 6in and weight 147lbs. I have been running now for a month and have gained a couple of pounds. I am looking to lose fat. I want to be a lot slimmer. Also you think that walking is better than running. Even though I run about 8 miles a week? I just want the what works the best. Thank you!

If your choice is between running 8 miles a week and walking 8 miles a week, walking is better. If you choice is between running 8 hours a week, or walking 8 hours a week, running is better. In other words, walking is better for you over the same distance, but if you're only going to spend a set amount of time doing an activity, running will show results in a shorter amount of time.

Also, take a look at your diet. There is only one way that weight is lost and that is by letting your body use more calories per day than it takes in. One pound is equal to approximately 3500 calories, so if you lower your daily calorie intake by ~1000 calories per day then you will see weight loss of approximately 2 pounds per week... keep in mind that this is a TOTAL calorie intake, including the amount you take in minus the amount your body uses daily. Of course, if you are like most people, counting calories is tedious and overly unnecessary (and will likely lead to giving up both diet and exercise in frustration). I suggest simply using common sense in choosing foods and eating reasonably sized portions. Either way, your diet is going to play a large factor in weight loss. Don't bother weighing yourself daily either... pick a day and time in the week to weigh yourself and only do that weekly. Watching the scale constantly is a recipe for disaster.

You don't want to lower your daily calorie intake by 1000 calories instantly. Lower it by a few hundred, and then also burn a few hundred calories through exercise and you'll be better off physically than just dieting.
