15lbs in 50 min!!

Hey everyone. My name is Randy, I'm new here. I'm really working on getting a fit and toned body and I'm not so sure I completely understand the concept of eating the right kind of foods and how to lose body fat in a healthy way. I'm 19 years old, athletic, weigh roughly about 175lbs and I'm 5'10.

I just got done working out and i decided tonight to run for 50min, and when i was done I noticed I had lost 15lbs and i now weight 160lbs. I checked to make sure the scale wasn't broken or anything too. I know this can't be that healthy. I'm just concerned on how to maintain this weight and keep losing body fat and not muscle. Thats my biggest concern that I have just done that tonight. I've read that you have to maintain a high protein and low carb food intake, and that you should eat complex carbs like pasta, wheat, oats, etc... so that the muscles can rebuild and not be burned for energy.

It would be very helpful if you someone could explain exactly what to do, or some tips. I'm in college btw, so I try to watch what foods I'm eating since healthy choices are limited.

Trust me, that is not accurate. I know its tempting to want to check the scale many times a day, but don't. Personally, I check my weight in the mornings. It will be more accurate if its around the same time each day you check it. Sometimes scales read like that when you lose water weight or if the floor it is on is not level. Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day due to activity, food and liquid intake, etc... But ya, it will take a lot more than 50 mins. Its lucky to lose a couple lbs in a week. Check again in the morning and consider that your starting weight and go from there. And yes, you will not lose much weight just from exercise. You have to make healthy eating choices as well which you can find more information in the nutrition part of this forum. A good starting point is LV's grocery list which I think is also in that section. Good luck!

PS 15 lbs is a big range. Make sure your scale is working because mine might range from 1-5lbs but never 15 lbs off.

Thank you. Yeah I went back and checked, and someone said the scale is broken. Plus its one of the old fashion ones with the weights that you move.

Thanks I'll check out that section. Sounds like the area I need to be looking.
