150 years of diet fads and still no quick fix to get skinny

Interesting read. Just shows this problem has been going on for so many years..keep that in mind when someone says they found 'the solution'.

Hi Jericho, the best solution that I have seen in my life time was when I was growing up. Most people where I was raised lived the same lifestyle! A Lot of hard work and eating regular meals. Walk most of the time and children played outside when they were not chopping wood and working in the garden. Played games like may I, simon says, hopscotch, all out come in free, and swinging on grapevines. The first TV that I can remember was an old black and white TV with an outside Antenna. Most of the time if I ate an apple I climbed the tree or the smoke house and crossed over to the apple tree. The best was climbing the hills to get to climb chimney rock (Just a high rock that we called chimneyrock). I never had a problem with my weight until about 5 years ago after I retired from work.

150 years and no quick fix. And I hope it stays that way. Imagine the damage it would cause both mentally and physically if there was some "miracle" weight loss pill or something. You'd have people binging disregarding the amount they are consuming because they have no motive knowing that they can just use the quick fix and all will be ok.
And then there's the lessons learned from the struggle of weight loss, the self control you teach yourself, the discipline of the body, the new things and skills you can discover through losing weight, the mental health benefits of exercising.
Sorry to be such a downer, it has always amazed me that so many people are a victim of resorting to ridiculous ways of trying to lose weight :(

"An excess of flesh is to be looked upon as one of the most objectionable forms of disease," the Philadelphia Cookbook declared in 1900. Maybe I need more of this non PC straight talk. It makes me want to do something about my corpulence.

It must work or they would not have people writing about it on a forum... :biggrinjester:

When it comes to losing weight most people seem to get lost and try all kinds of diets. It is more on self control and discipline. No kind of diet can ever work, unless you taking full control of yourself by simply eating right.

Well there isn't really a worse or best weight loss program, all of them work to an extent. I believe it's just the way things have been processed and the technologies in our society that has made the world lazier and fatter. like Annagail said, we used to be way more active but now everything we do has pretty much been automated. That is one reason why people are gaining weight. Another reason is food choices and inconvenience of time, etc. I have a little bit of knowledge on proper nutrition, i'd love to share it with you lovely people.

150 years of con artist. Just think, one hundred years from now, people will look back at us and laugh at Dr. Oz.

Would be crazy if someone found something that actually worked. A bar of soap that boosts your metabolism would just be awesome.

If you're not already looking at Dr. Oz with a healthy laugh, you're doing something wrong.
