14 lbs in 14 days.

I lost 50 pounds last year and manage to put it back on in 8 weeks (November/December). It has been a jagged pill for me for overcome. I spent the weekend of New Years Eve alone at home doing some soul searching. I realized that I never had the real passion for getting in shape. I was into it to a degree but in the end I slipped.

On Jan 1st I threw everything out of my fridge and started to clean things up. On that day there was a show on TV called 'Revolutionaries', about 3 people who lost weight. The one girl was doing this boot camp and I thought 'man that would be cool'. On Jan 2nd I spent the day sitting in court, next to me was a newspaper, I opened it up and there was an add for a boot camp. Needless to say it was the same girl who was the boot camp instructor on the show I saw the night before. Wow, no consciences!

I called her and did an orientation; BMI, weigh in, BF%, resting heart rate, measurements, before pics etc... She put all my info into a computer and based on my goals it spit out 1900 calories a day. So she wanted me to do something that I've never done, which is write down all my food and use a calorie count book to figure out calories, protien, carbs, fats. Write down every meal. And I added to the equation; no eating out. I committed to 16 weeks of bootcamp to acheive my goals. I feel amazing and look like a new person in just 14 days and went from 226 lbs to 212.4 lbs. The most intense weight loss ever for me. Now I know some is water weight and it won't stay at this pace but what a first 2 weeks. I am so excited. We didn't have boot camp this morning but I went up to the site and ran 3 miles up the Hollywood sign on my own. I'm still lifting 3 days a week at the gym too. I never know how powerful a journal could be.

Up to date weigh ins:
1/1/07 Mon 226.0 lbs (Day 1 eating healthy again)
1/8/07 Mon 219.1 lbs (Day 1 Boot Camp)
1//15/07 Mon 212.4 lbs

My ego nearly kept me from coming back to this forum but I'm grateful it didn't. Thanks for all your help.

One little warning:

Your initial weight loss is great, but it will begin to plateau soon. Weight sort of comes off in streaks. So, there will be a period coming up where you may go two weeks without losing anything, but don't get discouraged! Your body chemistry is still changing! Then, after a little while, you'll probably drop a bunch of weight again. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I've experienced that in the past. It also seems like for me that I always platue, it's like I can't keep up the intensity for to long but for some reason I feel better about getting in shape this time.

Great progress thus far James!

I know things have been up and down for you however I sincerely admire your drive to get back on top. It's all uphill from here man!

:)

Thanks LV. It has been a long strange trip for sure but it is looking up. I've really been doing things differently this time. I love the boot camp and journaling every meal is powerful. I never got it till I did it.

I'm glad to see iTransforum is kickin' *ss. We've been hashing movie lines back and forth in the lounge. :)~

I remember from a while back you always worked so hard James. I have no doubts you can reach your goals again, so don't sweat the holiday gain.

Everyone makes mistakes. What distinguishes us is how we handle them when we do.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm super pumped.

So I've really embraced this whole writing down all your food and heart monitor thing. So I'm at around 1900 cal a day of food intake. I put the heart monitor on last night at 1am and plan on wearing it for 24 hours just as an experiment to see where I'm at. Based on my age, gender, height, weight and resting heart rate, I burned 900 cal while sleeping (1am to 6am) and I burned 1200 cal at boot camp. It's now 9:30am and I've burned 2380 cal so far since 1am.

When I'm laying on the couch watching TV my heart rate is in the zone of 82-88. As soon as I stand it goes to the mid 90's. When I started cooking it was above 100. Walking to the car went to 104-110. Driving was the 90's. Running the hills was 146-168. Playing air drums while driving 124. lol I'm an avid air drummer. I realized how moving your arms really raises your heart rate.

This is very unscientific but has been more helpful then any book I've ever read. I really can see the relationship with food calories and heart rate/calorie burn have on my body based on the things I do in my life.

I'm at 99 while typing this post.

It seems as though my heart rate has stayed elevated after the workout, which seems to be what I've always read.

More will be revealed...

Does your hrm do percentages also? That is, percent of max heart rate? The one I have does (or used to, til it went a little wonky) and it's nice because you can just look down and know percentage you're at. You'll know you'll be working around 85% because you won't be able to keep your mouth closed for breathing.

It does do %. I bought the Polar F4 heart monitor. Very nice but one thing annoys me, they put the END botton right on the side by the wrist and I've ended it a few times doing pushups because it hits the top of my hand. I wish they put it a little caddycorner (sp?).

Yesterday I had a convention and got stuck out to dry a bit with food and ended up eating a little off but I got up this morning got back on it and went and hiked the hills for an hour. I'm off to wash the car and meet my trainer at the gym. Life's good!

I have the F11 - the Stop button is at the bottom left... Not sure what the price differential is - but I think the F11 is around $150.

I just completed my first 4 week cycle of boot camp and I feel awesome. I dropped about 20lbs and look way better. Tonight is graduation and I start cycle 2 on Monday. I'm gonna do 4 cycles and then take pics. At this pace I should be in shape in another 3 months. I'm also lifting very heavy 2 to 3 days a week. It's like I'm finally in the zone; food, cardio, lifting, stretching, sleep...
