Hi, I am Erin, turning 24 in a few weeks. I am a female and have been married for almost 2 years. I am currently a college student and unemployed.

I am 5'3" and currently weigh 160 lbs. Most of this weight was gained since I got married. My goal is to go down to a size 4 again, which was approximately 125 lbs. I have a heavy frame for my height (I will post pictures in my journal thread when I start it) with 42" hips back when you could see them jutting out and a large chest.

My husband and I joined a local gym last month and he goes almost every day. While he is overweight as well, he is also in much better shape because he just left active duty in the military and he also used to lift weights before he even joined. He is supportive of my weight loss but it is intimidating being his workout partner because he is so much more fit than I am. I get tired and out of breath embarassingly easy and have never been very athletic in my life. This is something I would like to change, however, since some sports have always appealed to me.

Another major motivation for me is my health and genetics, I am a virtual clone of my grandmother physically and she died in her early 60's after being overweight most of her life. Watching her body appear in place of my former curves is frankly terrifying me into wanting to change. I also have PCOS which probably has had some part in my weight gain and as of the last month or so I am starting to develop acid reflux, also not helped by being overweight. :ack2:

We have no children but we do plan to have them 5 years or so down the road and I want to have a healthy, fit body before pregnancy.

As far as personal, fun stuff about me, I love horses and horse racing, riding, talking about them in general... I love my pet ferrets and our dog, and I love my VW New Beetle.

Hi and welcome. :)

The first thing I'd suggest is registering for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I'd also suggest starting a diary in the weight loss diary area (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) as well as reading and participating in other diaries. This is a good way to make updates to your progress and to get support from others. It helps to find the diaries of people who have successfully lost weight (or are losing weight) and reading through them as well. Following the diaries of those who have been successful is both inspiring and informative.

Finally, I'd say you should read as much as you can of the posts on the board, especially anything that's marked "sticky". There is a ton of good information around here and a lot of times questions that new folks have has already been answered very thoroughly - so do take the time to look around and read. :)

Hope that helps you to get started.

This posting will probably be of help in controlling your weight...

It is important to bring your weight into the "healthy" range and keep it there if at all possible - as PCOS can have definite implications for both weight control and fertility - as well as a number of health risks. Such risks are minimised at a healthy weight...
