Alright, let's see, where do I begin.
This site has been bookmarked forever on my computer, but I finally want to get committed. There's a point where you completely hit rock bottom and feel there is no where else to go but up. I've hit rock bottom, bounced off the walls several times, and then put a crack in the floor. I'm. done. being. overweight.

I plan to use this diary for my feelings as well as just keeping track of my calorie intake because I don't believe in carbs and all that other crap. I believe calorie intake/out take is what really drops weight.

I was born big. I've been big all my life. My nickname when I was 8 and had a cow print fur jacket was moolissa. When I was 13 I had my boyfriend tell me I had brown cow eyes, and that has stuck with me. I don't want to be compared to a cow anymore, I want to be a hellcat.;)

I want to walk into a normal department store and show off my style. I am addicted to the the style network but Lane Bryant only offers so much...and they look like fat girl clothes! On top of that, they look like they're for 25-45 year olds. I'm in my prime. I'm 18. I want to be the sex kitten that is on the inside.

Today in December 22nd, and my boyfriend bought me a new scale for christmas. It kind of hurt, but I know he knows that's what I need and want. I need to be more conscious of my weight. When I weigh myself daily, I feel as though I have more control, and know what I can/can't eat for that day.

This is going to be a change. Starting now.

Today

Breakfast-none
Lunch/dinner-2 quizno's sammies (310 cal each)
1 chocolate chip cookie (large) I'm guessing around 400 calories
1 sierra mist I'm guessing about 140 calories
Snack-a handful of popcorn (30 calories)

Total:1190 calories

I am going to try my best not to eat anything else today because I am right around my limit (1200 a day), and I know I have nothing healthy in the house.

My current goal is to come down from 232 which is my current weight to 225 by New Year's eve. I believe that is reasonable if I stick to my diet and drink lots of water.

I recently had surgery/ was in a car accident and am not able to work out at the current time, but once recovered, I will be exercising at least 3 times a week, even if it is only walking 30 mintues to start. You need to start somewhere.

Here I go!

This question gets asked a thousand times on the forum but I'mg onna ask you too - why 1200? for your current weight that is entirely too low and you will just set yourself up to fail

Spend some time reading the stickied threads in this forum especially in nutrition... for a reasonable amount of calories. Calorie intake/outtake is what drops weight -not some magic mix of carbs/protein/lemonade whatever.. but you want an appropriate amount of calories

You also might want to dump the diet mentality -diets are short term and rarely work effectively - Lifestyle changes are permanent and will get you to where you want to be and teach you new habits for you to stay there.

Welcome to your diary and back to the site - much success in your quest..

I'm with mal on this one. I dont see why it has to go from extreme to the other. In fact, its probably the extremes that cause the weight gain. The overly restrictive diet followed by the overeating because you get hungry and tired of eating no breakfast and no dinner, just a lunch, a cookie and another snack.

It might be helpful if you actually sat down and figured out how many calories you were eating on a normal day before your diet (you can add it up on fitday.com). I would personally lower my daily calories based on that figure or some other factor rather than the arbitrary 1100 or "eat as little as humanly possible" model.

Good luck to you and a big welcome to the forum :).

First off, I'd like to thank the 2 members for reading my post. I will take into consideration boosting up my calories some, but for right now, it doesn't seem that low only because I'm not moving as much as normal because I just had surgery so I don't have as great as a out take of calories. But thanks guys for the welcome, and I will do more reading and possibly re evaluate my plan:)

Here's what I had today

Breakfast at 3 am-ramen noodles-300 calories
Lunch-Half a home pizza, not healthy, but what my boyfriend brought home. 540 calories
Dinner-Same as yesterday almost, 2 sammies, 200 calories each, cup of soup, 150, and DIET coke, no calories:)
Juice-slightly larger than 8 oz's which is 110 calories so like 130.
Total:1520. I'm NOT going to beat myself up over it, I didn't go that badly over, and I will be doing light house cleaning tonight, burning some extra calories.
I might even have a small bowl of ice cream;) Overall not too bad today:)

Ok, so got off the band wagon slightly because of the holidays, but I'm back. Anyways, here's my list of things I ate today:
Breakfast-Rockstar 280
Lunch-Large fry 570 calories and a diet coke 0 cal.
Dinner-Cheeseburger 432 cal. and pretzels 100 cal.
Total for today:1382 calories. I'm doing pretty good. I'm down to 226, and have to update it on my signature.:) YAY!!! My st goal was 225 by 12/31 and I think I'll be hitting it by tomorrow or the next day. I'm afraid though since I have my sense of taste back after my surgery I'll be tempted to stray more, but I'm going to try my best not to. Woot woot.

Not the best day....
Breakfast-woke up too late for it
Snack-2 servings of cheez it's-280
Lunch/Dinner- Crazy fries-218 per serving, I probably had about 2 servings. '
Snack-Slurpee- 600 calories UGH MY GOD
Snack-half a milky way bar-200 calories
Total-1516 calories UGH BAD BAD bad bad bad bad. My stg is tomorrow of 7 pounds, and I'm only at 6, so I have got to be careful with what I eat tomorrow (maybe just lemon water) and weigh myself on newyear's day. I was being stupid and careless, and I've been super hungry lately. Damn.

I've been MIA lately

I've been MIA lately, it's been crazy for me. My life is turned upside down, and that's why my diets been semi bad. I'm still taking responsibility for it, but hell, when you're stressed, you're stressed.

I still lost weight though, and thats the most important thing. I've lost 9 lbs so far, and I have 2 days to meet my stg of 220 by 1/7. I'm at 123 right now. So yay...and boo at the same time.

Congrats on your current dedication! And we have similar goals. 1200-1300 calories per day, which I don't think is as hard as everyone makes it out to sound.

But actually, on the biggest loser they have a basic formula for the amount of calories you should be taking in for maximum weight loss. It was <your body weight> X 7 or 1200, whichever is greater. I didn't watch the episode but I did read an article on it on MSN.com. According to that you could have a 1561 calories per day I think, of course that number goes down as your weight goes down. I'm telling you this so you don't feel bad about taking in 1500 calories.

I really do have to encourage you to get better sources of calories though. If you're going to be switching how much you eat to a much smaller amount and all of those calories come from low fiber high fat carbs, you're going to end up burning muscle and slowing your metabolism. Plus, sugar and fat over time will really start to age your skin. I mean, you can diet to get thin but if your skin is ruined, what can you do?

You mentioned being on the poor girl's diet which made me laugh. If you have to eat fast food, try eating things that aren't fried (like baked potatoes instead of french fries) or low fat proteins (like grilled chicken instead of beef patties.)

Anyway, that's my $0.02. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you love! I fell off the band wagon for a while (I didn't gain weight, I just didn't lose any either.) It's just been crazy lately...

Anyways, I love that whole take your body weight and multiply it by 7, so I'm going to let myself eat up to 1500 calories a day now. Thank you for the advice!

Yeah, I fell off the band wagon. But I'm attempting to work out (YES I actually went to the gym this week, and I'm doing carmen's strip tease workout tonight), and I am going to try and cut down on the fast food meat patties. Anyways, this is what I had today (ok so today wasn't GREAT)

1 cheeseburger-330
1 large fry-500
1 hersey cake-300
1 iced coffee-380

total:1510
I'm kicking myself for making poor decisions cause I know HOW much more food I could have had if I ate differently. I know now the fucken bun is worth 150 calories itself, which is just bull.

Dammit

Hey Melly :). Sometimes when you're "falling off the bandwagon" all the time there are things you could change to make things easier to stick with. For one thing, dont you notice a pattern between the restrictive eating and constantly going off your diet? I lost steadily on 1850 calories per day and I started out many pounds lighter, so I'm not sure why you cant be eating more as well. Maybe that way you'd be satisfied and continue with your plan rather than continually stopping.

How many calories do you eat when you're "off the wagon"?

Are you able to work out now?

Remember this: keep doing the same things and you should expect the same result.

You need to eat more clean foods!

Your setting yourself up to fail with the foods your eating at the moment!

Please don't use the excuse that they are too expensive. Go to your frozen food section of the supermarket, everything is snap frozen and better than fresh. They'll last forever. Stock up on frozen:
Broccolli
Corn
Peas
Cauliflower
Beans

You should aim for 2 fruits per day and 5 vegetables.

Apples and bananas should last up to 3-4 days. Try eating those as snacks?

You need to stop eating all that unhealthy food or you will never lose weight. Simple as that.

When you are out getting takeaways, how about getting subway or a take away salad (But without the cheese or fatty dressings, low fat honey mustard is good).
AND you need to start eating breakfast.
Your diet could consist of these alternatives (just suggestions for a balanced diet). You can still have that bad stuff, but as TREATS only.

Breakfast:
Packet Flavoured Oatmeal with Water
Low Cal Cereal (try one with no added sugar + lots of fibre) with low fat or skim milk
Fruit salad + a yoghurt
1 Slice Wholemeal toast with one poached egg, grilled tomato and an OJ
2 Egg Omelete made with capsicum, dash of milk, tomato and spices.

Lunches:
Wholemeal Roll w/ Turkey, Cranberry Sauce, Lettuce
Pre Packed Salad (Lettuce, Cherry Tomatoes, Capsicum, Cucumber, Cheese. You can buy these)
Toasted Cheese Sandwiches (low cal cheese, 2 slices wholemeal bread, 1 tin of tuna or slice of ham)
Salt Reduced Tinned Soup (minestrone or tomato or anything broth based)
Healthy pizza made with low cal pita bread, low cal cheese, and lots of veggies
Sushi?

Dinners:
Low fat stirfrys with lots of veggies
Grilled Meat (Chicken, Fish) with veggies (Broccolli, 1 medium potato, peas, etc).
Low fat chow mein
god heaps more cant be bothered typing.

If your mum or dad cooks dinner you could ask them to try some more healthier alternatives?

Snack Ideas:
Veggie sticks with hommus or tsaziki dip (carrots, cucumber, celery, capsicum)
Cruskits (light bread) with a tin of flavoured tuna
100g Yoghurt
Fruit - apples, bananas, mangoes, nectarines, apricots, etc etc

You should be aiming for 1500 cals + of CLEAN unprocessed foods.
They will make you feel fuller and you can eat more of them because they are less dense than what you are eating at the moment.

Also, your goal weight. How tall are you? Is this a reasonable goal? seems a tad low.
