hey!

Heard a little bit about this kind of diet and was thinking of trying it. Basically just wondered what the rules were, apart from the obvious only 1200 calories a day. can i eat what i want? like chocolate & crisps & raspberries? lol

Thanks :D

Hmmm...what kind of diet is it?

How did they come up with 1200 calories a day?
The amount of calories really depends on your activity level, body composition, metabolism etc. etc.
Whatever calories a day you're eating I wouldn't have them come all fat...everything I eat I ask msyelf what nutritional value I'm getting from it etc.

Hi! I'm glad you asked! For the moderatley (not morbidly obese) overweigt woman, 1200-1500 cals is what they suggest to LOOSE weight..not maintain.

I'm a HUGE fan of the 1200 cal diet and it seems to be the only diet that really works for me. You can eat every 2 hrs if you want, you can have any food you want, but try your best to make the most nutritionally sound choices. Just stay at 1200-1500 cals (not lower). MANY MANY foods you love now come in low calorie versions or 100 cal. portions.

Here is how I have my day split up..

300 cals for breakfast
100 cal snack
300 cal lunch
100 cal snack
300 cal dinner
100 cal snack

easy to remember and you can eat every 2 hrs if you need to!

If I'm ever in the mood to just "eat for no reason" I grab a piece of sugar free gum and a tall glass of water :D

1200-1500 cals

This is easy to remember but your math is off. This comes to 1100 (which is less) You need to add 100 calories to make it to 1200. 300 each meal and 100 each snack will do it.

I lost 70 pounds doing 1,200 a day. Newbride is right, you do have to make the most nutritionally sound choices for it to work for you. Think Egg Beaters instead of eggs, Light Chips instead of Regular, Weight Watchers desserts, ect. There are ways to eat fun foods and diet.

you can eat chocolate and junk but u have to remember...sometimes a piece of chocolate is 300 cal and that makes 900 left for the day for 3 meals and at least one if not two more snacks..so in the end u could really screw urself and end up hungry and make bad choices or go starvation mode...if u know what i mena

I think its more important to have 1,200, or any certain calorie amount, as an average, not every single day. For example, I have some days I consume well under 500. Others, I have well over 2,000. My calorie consumption varies greatly based on the activity I am having or am going to have any given day.

fatass....thats not exactly healthy. If it works for you, then fine, but I certainly wouldn't suggest anyone else to eat 500 cals in one day.

I did make a mistake, I did write 200 cals for dinner, i meant 300..thanks for pointing that out!

It may not exactly be healthy, but I know for a fact that being fat is even more unhealthy. I'll take a few risks to speed up the results. Its not like I completely fast or anything.

1200

I think 1200 cals is a good guideline but first it's important to have the basic food groups. From there, after you have eaten nutritionally sound food, you can decide for yourself if a snack or a walk is in order. I also find that a range of cals is good because you don't get down on yourself if you go over a few cals. Ie: 1200-1300. I'm not sure how this helps the diet but it does help the spirit.

You're from the UK right? lol, the food groups are classifications of food by the us government. You have fruits/vegetables, dairy, meats/beef/poulty/pork/fish, and grains/breads/rice or basically just carbohydrates. The 4 food groups are then set up into a pyramid form which is widely ignored, the bottom of the pyramid represents the carbs as being your largest food group. The whole thing is really old school, I think probably from the 50's or 60's. But the general idea of the 4 food groups, is to be eating a balanced diet.

They get 1200 calories bcz it is the minimum caloric requirement to maintain a healthy diet.

I did that for a year afater I had my first daughter and lost over 70 lbs. + lots of exercise, of course. I managed to actually lose the weight in about 7 months and just maintained the eating habits for the rest of the time. It worked well for me.

I agree with everyone , I swear by 1200 cal. per day to lose weight. But if you eat all the calories in chocolate cookies (100 cal.per cookie) , you will feel hungry faster and will feel horrible because you haven't eaten anything nutritional which might make you more suseptible to colds etc... but more importantly if your not eating healthy you might be setting yourself up to binge!!
