120 Pounds To Lose...

Thanks. I was just looking on Sainsburys before I saw your reply to see what foods that I eat I could replace with something more all-round healthier.

My BRM is 3402. So I am guessing that I would need to set my Calorie intake for the day to 2402 if I want to lose around 2lbs.

That actually surprises me. I thought my calorie intake would have to drastically reduce to something ridiculous like 1500 a day.

I apologise for being an idiot lol. I should have checked all of this out before I signed up. You have been a very big help tonight - thought I was going to have to practically starve myself lol.

Thanks.

Is your BMR 3402, or is your maintenance calorie allowance 3402? Did you account for activity with that number? (If not, multiply by 1.2 if you do little/ no exercise, 1.375 if you do light exercise 1-3 days a week, 1.55 if you do moderate exercise 3-5 days a week, 1.725 if you do hard exercise 6/7 days a week, or 1.9 if you have a very physical job and/ or train athletically twice a day. Then reduce 500-1000)

It's not exact, these are estimates, but that should be about right.

Although to be fair, although my aim is 1833, I actually eat around 1550 calories a day most days and I don't starve by a long shot. It's about making the right choices so you're not hungry (for example, honey roasted peanuts and cashews- which I love- 150 calories for 25g. Which is, if you'll pardon the expression, bugger all. To get 150 calories of steamed courgette, you'd need to eat 883g worth, which I reckon is 5-6 average sized courgettes- based on the fact that I eat steamed courgettes a lot, I weigh them, and I calculate them in a calorie calculator- which is a heck of a lot)

It's no problem :) I had to find all this stuff out too.

Oh, and for best results with calorie counting, I seriously recommend a calorie counting program and some scales (ideally digital). I use a program called cron-o-meter, others use (and recommend) fitday (both are free).

As for scales, I have a digital set that I picked up on sale from Argos for 10 quid (they're 15 now)- Salter brand, not their own brand. They weigh to the nearest gram or ml, which is really very precise.

I think Amy has explained things rather well and I agree a digital scale will make a big difference in working out exactly how much your eating.
