someone posted this on another weight lose forum:

Under eating will slow/damage your metabolism etc. When there is a drought you limit your water use to keep the reserves full so that you can last through the drought. Your body does the same thing so instead of releasing reserves it holds on to everything it has.Under eating/malnourishment forces it to draw nutrients/fuel from bones and muscle resulting in high risk of osteoporosis and other worse damages to your body. Even if you are eating foods with a lot of nutrients your body can't use those nutrients effectively without enough fuel.

I feel like one meal a day for a long period of time can never truly be quality change. I respect the idea and the and balls to go for it haha. If you just want to lose that belly check out some of the ideas on my profile.

No, definitely not. Your body needs calories for fuel otherwise it's going to start feeding on your fat and muscle that you have. I drink 2 shakes a day and have snacks and a meal, but I make sure that I get about 1200 calories give or take a few. That's about the ideal amount for weight loss. If you exercise, you'll need more calories to give your body the energy it needs.

Don't listent to anyone bashing the 1 meal a day diet. First of all, most indy studies show that fasting long periods (24-32hrs) between meals is extremely healthy. Not only does it give the digestive organs a rest, but it also allows the body to clean up after itself because there are much fewer incoming free radicals. In rats and humans, eating a reduced calorie diet or eating every other day has shown to increase lifespan by roughly 20-30% and significantly increase the healthspan (years lived without disease). As an added side affect, people lost weight and their bodies recomposed themselves. The notion that one must eat often comes from a very flawed perspective of how the body works.

One meal a day is not recommended. If you want to lose weight you must follow a well balanced diet and meal plan. The more healthy foods you eat, the harder your metabolism works, thus making you burn more fat.
