please help me!

info about me : 121 pounds, 5'1, female. 14 years old.
I'm 121 pounds usually (even when i dont eat) and i'd like to know how to get skinny. what i want to lose the most is the weight around my stomach and waist. please help.
i cant fix the way i eat because i cant control it and ive asked my mom to cook healthy but she always buys fast food for me. and im trying to lose weight secretly so what exercises can i do without buying equipment or going to the gym? will running&doing sit ups be enough? and for push ups, i want to improve but i can barely do one.
please help :(

Hi :)

Well, first of all, that is Really Sad and Terrible to read about your mother, no offense but that really is, I'm so sorry for you :(

As for losing the weight, look:

Sweating is what will make you lose weight, therefore, cardio exercising, which means Running, skipping a rope, cycling, any activity like that makes you move a lot, and sweat.

Thing is, when you want to lose weight, exercises like pushups and situps aren't the best, they will help burn calories, but mainly they're just toning up muscle, but beneath the fat, so it won't really show any difference if someone is overweight, and it may tire you out and you won't be losing much weight anyway.

So as you're struggling with the food, (Not your fault though I know) I'd Focus on the Cardio activity most of all if it's weight loss you want.

In any case if you feel like it, do some situps and pushups anyway.
If you can't do any pushups, start with partial pushups, get in the normal pushup position but then bend your legs and get on your knees so your pushing up less weight. Start with doing many of those and you'll improve ;)

Best Wishes for you! and I hope you manage to get your parents to buy better food, it's Vital.

thank you so much for answering!
i'll try my best.! do you have any advice for me though? to stay away from junkfood when i have the choice?

Ok some basics everyone knows.
to lose weight means burning more calories than you consume, if you consume a lot of junk by choice or not you will have to work hard to get rid of excess.
Things to remember that many don't think about.
Fat is over 3,000 calories a pound, so if you lose more than a pound in a day and haven't done a massive amount, you have lost water. This is not to discourage you, purley to point out that loosing and gaining pounds on a daily basis is normal, and only long term trends are worth considering.
Fat is slow burning and needs presence of oxygen to burn. This means if you are out of breath you are not burning fat efficiently during exercise. Higher intensity activity don't burn fat during the workout but you will be burning some during recovery after, so don't be discouraged into thinking you can only do low intensity stuff if don't enjoy it.
Muscle burns energy at rest. If you build muscle not only do you get toned but your burn more calories just sitting around than if you carried the same bodyweight but fat instead.

This next may be totally impractical and I see parents like yours a lot who make it so. Try to go shopping with your mum and show her that pasta, rice etc. are actually just as cheap as the less healthy alternatives. Many think eating healthy is expensive because there are so many trendy brands who make it so, gettign simple foods are cheap and as long as they aren't smothered in oil or sauce less fattening.

Well, first of all you deserve congrats for giving it a go! And for being willing to do what it takes to pursue health! You go girl!

I would suggest two things:
1) Exercise over time - just go walking/running/jogging/cycling about three times per week, then four the next week if you are feeling good, then try to go a little faster and farther on your runs. The main thing, though, is you will need TIME before you see results! You will likely have to stick with it for at least 6 weeks before you begin to really feel different and see results. And you may have to stick with it for months before you reach your target weight/fitness.

2) Smaller portions - for now, what your mother cooks or buys may be out of your control in some ways, although you should try being honest with her about your goals, and what she could do to support you. But if you eat some junk food or fast food, just eat LESS of it - get the smallest order of fries, or split an order with your mother. You get the idea. I'm sure she would be willing to buy you some fresh fruits and veggies if you just ask though - mothers love their kids, and she will want to support you!

Good luck to you!! I know you'll get there - just be patient and STICK WITH IT! :)

hmm. ive recently started practicing for track after school (Started like on tuesday or wednesday) and ive been gaining weight and i dont know why :(... it might be because im building muscle but is it possible to gain like 5 pounds in the matter of a few days from muscle?

its fine i want a straight answer (and i was pretty sure i wouldnt be able to do that either, so you just confirmed what i thought) but. im like confused because the last few days ive been staying away from junkfood and ive been eating actual korean food (which is pretty healthy o_o)
so what am i doing wrong? :p

I Guess you didn't burn more calories than those that we're Intaken, I wouldn't know what else :/

Either Eat less, or eat a Lot of Good Food. In this case it would mean Low calorie Food.

For instance, White Yogurt, skimmed. It's got like 0,1 fat %, lowest you'll ever get. And yeah, alone is quite grim for some I guess, so just grab a banana, slice it up and have it with yogurt, a fresh and nice healthy snack, it will make you feel Full but not fatten :D Just an example :) And I eat that, and I don't even have to lose anything, if anything I need to gain some lol

oh okay. thanks so much.! i really appreciate this!
good news! i got down to 126! (yes, down :p) buut my weight still fluctuates from like 126~129. i would think that fluctuating weight is normal for a teenage girl, but isnt 126~129 still considered overweight? :p?

You're welcome for my little advice :)

Great I'm glad for you =)

The Fluctuation is normal for a teenage girl same as it is for a 240 Lbs bodybuilder ;) Don't worry. Usually I weigh myself like in the morning after doing toilet business, that's a good reference for your actual weight.

Well, I am not good at this average weight things so I looked up an official chart here if you want:

According to this, you would be "overweight", but only like 5 Kg I guess. ( Nothing trascendent :) )

Best Wishes

im starting to get discouraged... like what do i do? ive been exercising and yesterday i did an especially tiring work out (50 bleachers <up and down counts as one> 100 crunches like 4 sets of planks (left side, right side, and normal) for like 30 seconds each, hurdle walks, and boxes (boxes where you like jump on them and stuff) and i weighed myself afterwards (i think it was like 126 or something. YAY!) but after eating i became 130 again and i figured it would go down again after a while but it didnt :[ and im positive i didnt eat too much.
please help.. like im exercising and stuff and its not really light exercises but if anything, im getting worse! when i first started this post i was at 121 like heaviest but now its 130! im starting to want to starve myself.. i know that is WAY off the mark for health, even the opposite but now.. its becoming too much for me! please help me! i really appreciate it when you reply so thanks!

OK some advice that if you follow you will be one of a serious minority, because this is difficult.
Please stop looking at your weight on the scales for your judgement of success. It is beyond doubt one of the least accurate things you can judge yourself by. Some reasons are below.

Water weight. The cause of greatest fluctuation in body weight. I am not talking medical issues causing water retention, I am talking normal life and training. Personal experience from when I was a wee nipper on the club scene, weighed in after the gym, then went out for a serious head banging session where despite drinking several pints of orange squash, yes I'm that boring, my general antics and the adhesive quality of music and dance floor combined to mean I was 4 pounds lighter when I got home. This is the equivalent of 14,000 calories of fat, I didn't burn that and 2 days later I had found the weight I'd lost.
A way to show how much heavier than fat water is, not very scientific but a good general measure. Put a lump of lard in water see how much of it floats.

Muscle and fat comparison. Muscle is largely water, and as we have covered water is heavy. There are cries of I don't want to be muscular from both genders, truth is simple, the choice is generally fat or muscle when it comes to the visible tissue, and toned bodies are usually considered more appealing, that's muscle. If your replace a cubic foot of fat with the same or slightly less of muscle, you will gain weight, this is not failure despite what the scales say.

Now the really tough bit, an accurate measure, but one that takes talent to use, the mirror. If you can train for aesthetics and use the mirror at a consistent level daily, well done, you will be the first ever to do so. That said it is the best measure of aesthetics available, it literally shows how you look. Add in mood and changing goalposts it becomes unreliable but it's better than scales every time. Look at key target areas regularly at a set time of day, morning after ablutions as Famas says is a good one, and in my case a very good way to scare myself awake. If you notice that you’re toning around the middle and tightening in other areas you like and the scales say you are getting heavier you will know that the toned look is because of lean mass gain and fat loss. If the scales show you are losing weight but you are losing tone, you have starved yourself and your body is breaking down muscle to survive.

I have given this advice to many, most have nodded and ignored it, continuing to obsess over their weight. I bother because of the few who nodded in the same way but tried it and went on to become stunning and loved it.

kkk. thanks!:). i do both but i'll keep myself away from the scale!
i think one of the reasons why i was so worried though was because after a few days of actual exercise i was gaining (mentioned a few posts earlier) but apparently i wouldnt be able to gain muscle that fast so :p

Gaining or losing a few pounds that fast is guaranteed water in virtually all cases.
The body is good at storing fat, but to eat enough to gain a few pounds in a few days would take some doing. This from a man who could eat for England.
Water levels in our bodies change drastically and easily, we are also the most pathetic primate regarding dehydration so cling to it because our very life does rely on it.
I stopped worrying about being pretty a long time ago, but I'm wierd and generally arrogant so this wasn't difficult to do. For normal people how they look or percive themselves to look is really important, and I need to keep in mind that it's me being a freak.
I do use the mirror as a bit of a guide, but ironically not for would I pull looking like this, happily married so only one to impress. What I use it for now is seeing if the session I am doing is having the effect I expect. Pure power work give a more bloated flabby look where definition fades, endurance bias will cut me up a bit more.
Current one is strange combination where I have gained some weight and kept as lean as before, because of heavy section followed by endurance. The weight will disappear next time as the weights session will be pure power but I will likely be running more often with icy roads meaning spikes on feet makes it more practical than cycling.
