Hello All - seeking advice for job related fitness

Hey, My name is Trent, I'm 25 and haven't seen the inside of gym on a regular basis in 7 years. I will soon be starting a new job that will require me to routinely climb a 300' vertical ladder with a climb harness. I have been told I will need to climb sometimes as many as three times a day. I joined this forum as part of my effort to get in shape and work more on what I eat. I would also like to know which forum I should go to to seek advice on training for this activity.

thanks in advance

Hey Trent. Mate you will need to improve your endurance, quad strength and grip strength.

How long will it take you to climb, will you have to stay up there on the ladder and will you be climbing down?

Oh and also, is there a time frame before you would have to climb again?

well, i did my climb test about a week ago, no real muscle fatigue but a lot of cramps in my deltoids, extensor corpi ulnaris, gluteus medius, and gracilis muscles. ( muscle names found here: sorry if any are incorrect) Some hand cramping but i can relate that to needing to work on my grip. I won't be around a regular gym with this job, mostly hotel gyms, which means treadmill, maybe a stairmaster and if i'm lucky like a lat pull down type cable machine. Given these limitations I'll have to come up with a work out routine combined with diet and nutrition to get in shape sooner than later.

Once up the ladder I will be on a floor surface but in confined quarters so cool down is pretty slow unless you can get out in the breeze.

As far as time frame, were maybe talking climb up, 30 minutes to 4-5 hours and then climb down, depending on what work needs to be done. And after talking to some people in the field I can expect to climb atleast once a day with a probable max of seven times in one day.

Sorry I can't add much in the way of answers to your questions, but dang that must be a thrill climbing 300 feet. I've climbed 40 ft extension ladders and 115 ft aerial ladders daily for training and calls, but 300 ft would take some getting used to. I'm sure you've seen this video, but just in case you haven't.

Btw congrats on the new job.
