Are you doing half squats or quarter squats?

Most people think a squat is to parallel, others think a squat is moving down a couple of inches and then standing up again. For a squat to be a squat, the crease of your hip has to be lower than the top of your knee. Interesting reading from amped training.

Most people end up using a tonne of weight and doing this.

I've heard a PT at my gym tell a client that there was no point in performing more than a half-squat :(
I think it's fairly common for people to be told this which is probably a major reason why it's so frequently seen

Squatting down onto a bench is a good way to find the right depth if you find it hard to judge, which most do.

Squatting to a bench will in most instances get you to parallel like these multiply guys who don't squat to depth.

If parallel is say 15 inches then you need to squat to a low box say 12 inches to ensure you hit proper depth.

I wish i could squat :(

And my gym pisses me off also, they all advice people to half squat since going further is 'bad for you knees' ........idiots..

It depends on the size of your bench and legs I guess :)
For me (6'2") squating to a bench at my gym is a little below parallel

Yeah definitely not the case with me. I typically use one of the hard pads that are more commonly used as platforms.

Have you got any injuries or issues preventing you squatting?

Same case in my gym, the trainer told me to half-squat back in the day. People's squats are so high a bull could pass underneath. :D

On the flip side, other than some random martial artist who wants to take one pin from the racks or some curl warrior doing curlz-for-the-girlz in the racks, the racks are usually free. :)

I go way down to the point where my buttocks :D almost touch the floor and i squat with 160 lbs, and even with 180 lbs, although when 220 lbs i'm doing parallel squat :D

I Don't get why the BB in the Pic squats with his legs wide open, i've tried to squat with my legs more open, like that, and it's harder, so if they're using more weight, why to squat like that?; I think it's easier with legs less open and following of course the correct technique : Back straight, and contract the abs, and so on! you all knowª

i woulda thought the diferent position of legs woud mean u would have to use different muscles. i find doing wider leg squats you tend to dip more and its harder to keep the chest up and closer leg squats are easier so must be working some different muscles?

Wide stance squats can be easier for many people, they tend to put more focus on the lower back and glutes, but the wide stand also provides a less distance to squat..:)

What about performing dead lifts? Ideally how low should you go? At the moment I say I would probably bend down so my hips are a little above my knees but not as low as that squat diagram at the top of this post.

^ Nice. And not just because she has a nice butt.
