BMR Question

So I've looked through some threads and couldn't find the calculation to figure out the BMR. I did a google search and found this though:

66 + (6.3 x Weight in LBS) + (12.9 x Height in Inches) - (6.8 x Age in Years)

If this is the correct calculation then my BMR would be 2242.30. 225lbs 72 inches, and 25 years old.

So in order to lose weight, do I need to consume less than my MBR on top of doing cardio and weight training?

Thanks again, and sorry if this is just another re-post of this subject.

BMR is basal metabolic rate...i.e. 'resting metabolic caloric needs'

assuming you move during the day, you have to multiply 2242 by an 'activity modifier', which can range from 1.2 to 1.45 for the average person. it just depends on your lifestyle and career.
I sit on my ass all day at work, and have no kids to chase after at home, so I usually use 1.3 for my modifier.
a construction worker/cement worker would lean more towards 1.4...while someone who is nearly bed ridden would be below 1.2.

I'd start with 1.3 for your multiplier, but remember that this is JUST AN ESTIMATE based on scientific averages. you personally may need more or less calories than the formula gives you. this estimate would be your maintenance calorie estimate, and you'd then add or subtract anywhere from 5% to 20% of those calories for a bulking or cutting diet...which is still an estimate.

Hi Malkore!
The multiplier number, so you mention if you sat on your ass all day you can use the 1.3 well i sat at the desk me too all day long so i will use this but in the summer when i start biking for about 3 hrs a day should i keep this number or just continue using the 1.3?

I would stay at the 1.3. just expect to shed some bodyfat when you start cycling more.

Ok good! thanks... actually i started to bike with my stationary bike but just 30 min last night its not much but my god.. i am pretty rusty...i was not even going fast and felt kind of tired... and its only 30 min... i am not sure how much calorie you burn with this bike cause i don't think that the calorie, heart rate, mile indicator are that accurate... like i said i bike 30 min at i think its said 14 spead.. and it said i loost 33 cal... woooo...lol

Is it possible that i lost some weight in this short period of time eating about 400 cal a meal up to what i am suppose to... cause the last time i post here i was 176 and this morning i am 174. Once i start to loose weight i guess i got to redo the calculation with still adding 1.3 multiplyer for the exercise, right?

I dont know how accurate is my scale its one with the needle... but i am happy i lost a few lbs....
