TJ- my 14 year old - 4 lifts

slim fast...supposed to be a device to help you lose weight, and your trying to make it a weight gainer LOL ironic. but it will work. calories are calories. anything that has high calories is probably good to eat for skinny kids like them as long as its not poison lol

just make sure it doesnt have soy protein...

it may be a good one-- it is supposed to be complete, and he can chug it down. I'm guinna wait and see what neon has to say,, she has lot o experience with dieteeers.

Ok.. did a little research on supplements for teens and found that a normal protein intake should be 1-2g per pound of body weight so if he's 100lbs, 100-200g of protein is needed daily.

If he is not getting that much through diet alone, then using a supp wouldn't hurt, but i would limit it to one a day.

I did go to the Slim-fast website and dug around for some info. They have five different types of RTDs and only two would be good for TJ.

1. Low-Carb Shake: Calories - 190, fat calories- 80 Total carbs - 6g Protein- 20g
2. High Protein Shake: Calories - 190, fat calories- 45 Total carbs - 24g Protein- 15g

As long as the rest of his diet is balanced, he is getting the right multivitamins & minerals, and he's working out smart; then him seeing results won't be too far off.

This shouldn't be an issue though... he has you and you're a smart cookie!!! :)

i've decided I am nto going to feed my kid that stuff. He just need to slow down, sit down, and take the time to eat. He can have whey and food.

DAD has spoken. hahaha

i would forget the slimfast and stick with good old milk, its cheap and natural.
i started lifting at 15 and the guy that trained me was a mr britain/europe and came
second to bill pearl in the universe,he made sure i could do chins/dips/decline-press-ups before i moved onto bench etc,and i agree kids should be able to move there own bodyweight first, its a great start and they are great exercises to carry on doing.

i would go with
squat
dips
chins
millitary press
anything involving weights i wouldnt do more than a 10rm anything lower could be to heavy for a junior also they are more likely to have poor form (ego etc)

yeah, kids don't ned that crap...real foods is SO much better!

MY 12 year old is a lean machine too. He is ADHD and just *never* stops moving! solid muscle, but thin as a whip! I just let him eat! If I could just get him to slow down a little e might be able to put on some weight, but not likely :D

Kids eventually will grow into their own....You got them headed in the right direction and they will appreciate it later in life! :action8:

Is it true that once you start lifting weights you dont grow taller anymore or is dat just a myth? Awesome job with your kid btw
