From week 1 to week 2

Hi all this is my first post so go easy on me!

I am 23 years old and have abused my body for most of my younger life.

I finally woke up to the fact that I have to do something about it so I have been swimming every morning at 7am then going to work and then having 30 mins on the treadmill at home around 6pm after work. When I started these were my stats as printed out on one of them digital machines that measures weight, BMI, Fat Index and Fat Mass

Week 1 Results...

Date 09.01.09

Weight - 19st 12lb (126.1kg)

B.M.I - 35.6

Fat Index - 38.5%

Fat Mass 48.5kg

Now that's what I started at so as you can see there is allot of work ahead to do now here is week 2 results and what worries me is that am I on the the right path from these results below the weight has gone up! though fat mass and index has fallen but BMI has risen so am I doing something wrong?

Week 2 Results...

Date 16.01.09

Weight - 20st 0lb (127.2kg)

B.M.I - 36.3

Fat Index - 33.3%

Fat Mass 42.3kg

Any advice would be great thanks.

At my local gym there is a large scale you stand on that tells you weight and hight then you place your hands on the side and it measures fat index and fat mass.

The way I see it its just a case of me turning fat into muscle and the muscle weighing more that has increased my weight.

you did not add 2 pounds of muscle in a week. did you possibly drink more water on the day you weighed yourself in the 2nd week as compared to the first week?

You should always weigh yourself at teh same approximate time each time. in the AM just after you relieve your bladder and/or bowels is one good example.

have you done anything in regards to your eating habits? have you been eating more because you are expending more energy and your body tells you its hungry? whats your daily food intake like?

See no these were both done on a Friday morning straight after breakfast and a swim

even the clothes were the same so its as fair test as I could make it!

Though my clothes are feeling allot less tight and I am noticing a weight loss from a visual perspective. maybe its too early to tell we shall see what week 3 brings.

yes it is too early to tell. 3 weeks will also be too early to tell. wait till the 1 month mark and don't get too hung up on how much you have lost. i wasn't losing any weight for the first month of my change in lifestyle and then suddenly at the 2 month mark i weighed 10 lbs less than previously. weight loss is not linear...some months you will lose more and soe you will lose less. a good way to keep track of any weight loss (its hard for you yourself to tell visually) is to photo document at different points along the way. take before pics and pics of yourself in 1 month, 2 months, 3 months ect.

you didn't answer my question regarding your eating habits...

I try to eat 3 proper meals a day

Corn flakes for breakfast with skimmed milk

sandwich and fruit for lunch

dinner normally meat of some kind

Cornflakes: not as healthy as you might think. maybe try some eggs, whole grains, proteins

sandwich: what kind? whole wheat bread or white?

dinner: just meat? what kind? beef, chicken, fish? any veggies? any complex carbohydrates like whole grain rice?

If you look around these forums you will see many a thread of people asking what they should be eating to be healthy, put themselves in a caloric deficit and lose weight. almost all follow the same trend and almost all have at least one mention of something like "altering you diet is the cornerstone to weightloss and healthy living".

I'm not trying to come off like a **** but losing weight is bigger than just doing 30 minutes of cardio twice a day. if you're not eating healthy and not watching the quantities of food you consume you'll go no where.

It is 5:45pm and so far today ive eaten 1300 calories. 1000 if counting what ive burnt doing cardio. Im hoping that writing everything down will help me to cut :p
