Not Too Early To Think: New Year Resolution?

I make personal goals/milestones throughout the year, and do not pay attention to the holiday tradition. My New Year goals began in October, and modifications for improving them or adding to them is an on-going system, and does not pay attention to date, necessarily, as much as position in my goal at the time.

However, I do know that some of you make personal goals around this time. And, would be interested in seeing what your personal goals are for this upcoming new year.

Looking back, this was my response to last years thread:

Personally, I don't make New Year resolutions. I had my personal goals created and executed before the year started, and this will continue past the new year without change (unless the time comes where a change is needed during the year):

Item 1. Get my BF Lower than the 8%, which was achieved and maintained through May to September 07)-- to about 7% (I set my own personal standards).

Item 2. Goal weight: 160 to 162 (5'7") UP 6 approximate pounds (or up 6 approximate pounds from 154 lbs at 8% BF)

Item 3. Continue to deal with dietary complications effectively (NUMBER 1 in importance): Through proper mental preparation and outward physical execution, and implementing and then modifying external choices made to assist with dietary complications (synopsis).

Item 4. Continue to deal with training complications effectively to maintain "consistency and progress" (Number 2 in importance)

Item 5. Steering and properly maintaining Items 3 and 4, will give me Item 2 without a hesitation or any doubt in my mind what-so-ever.

Pretty simple.

Happy New Year!

Best regards,

Chillen

All of these goals were met and/or exceeded. As will the goals I set forth for my personal year beginning in October 2008.

The goals are the same with the exception of the weight and increased muscle mass:

Instead of going from 152/154 lbs to 161/162 lbs (as in last year), I will go from 161/162 to 171/172ish lbs (target one pound of lean muscle mass per month-->average), and be under 8% BF (when finished), and do not plan on going any lower in the BF, as I am really comfortable their and my body likes it (though I have to force it to like it, lol :)).

What are your goals for this coming year brotha and sista's?

Its about one month out, and its not too early to think about it, if you haven't started your personal goals yet.

Best wishes to you,

Chillen

I have never tried a one arm pull up. I just may try to see if I can do one in the future, just out of curiosity. I have no doubt you will earn your goal this year, PB. You just flat have the STUFF! :) I do keep track of your journal each day, and you are doing extremely well.

I wish you the best in your personal goals! Yep.......already done! :)

No, I do not have a training journal--explicitly for that purpose. However, I could be convinced to provide the extra time in making one and maintaining one each day, if it proves to be beneficial to a forum member.

I keep a rather extensive: Diet journal, Weight training journal, Picture journal, with other personal educational segments, in One Note, that are hyper linked (and programmed in other ways) to files in Excel, Power Point, and Word.

The files I created in Excel are linked to the Excel files I used doing previous goal attempts and are programmed to contrast differences when I want them, as well as offer suggestions (from my personal past history).

In addition, I have created Excel files (after putting in the proper information), that create calorie needs (from my base particular of variables) when inputting current fitness activities (such as approximated training expenditure, employment expenditure, etc), and each of these are compared to other variables (if I have done this in the past, such as a bulk, or leaning down under 8%) to contrast various differences (such as weight--which would be one at the present time as compared to the past).

The beauty of the setup is that, all I have to do is open one program (One Note), to get what I want, or start the process, though it involves several programs. Its all setup to be accessed from one starting point, and I don't have to mess with several programs, which I would not like.

Yes, I am this dedicated and obsessed with wanting.....what I want. There is no greater data to follow than the data the body feeds back to you, and "trying" to optimize these personally specific figures, and then following it, and then entering in honest data (so the data received back is just as honest and truthfully).

You think I should start one? If so, I would give heavy consideration.

Best regards,

Chillen

My resoulution to get back in shape (after a 2 year lay off) started on May 25/08 and has been going great.

My goal now is just to continue to add weight to all my lifts (especially the big ones) and to bulk up about 10 lbs or so without getting too fat over the winter.

Also i would love to see a sample of your split, routine and diet Chillen.

Hooken' up with Gooch on a journal.......may be a an idea......if I decide I want to do one. I will think it over, and post a response 2morrow. If Gooch, isnt up to it, then I will find someone else, who would be willing to partner with me. Just be prepared. Is all I can tell ya, in advance. :)

ROCK IT!

Best wishes

Why does it have to be with someone else???

It doesnt have to be a journal that you post in every day just an updat ever week or so with your split/routine and what not.

Oh boy I'm little scared...

I'm always trying to improve myself so New Year's Day is no different. I started to meditate again which makes my mental outlook so much stronger! I may be up for ya Chillen

I have never been much for New Year's Resolutions, mostly because I set new goals for myself on a continual basis. Making a resolution on New Year's seems redundant :D

But if I had to make a New Year's Resolution, I think it would be to make more time for myself. Maybe take some yoga classes again, or some dance classes ... and if my arm heals up nicely, I'd really like to go down to Montreal again and learn more aerial silk techniques.

And I resolve to be a nicer human being :)

That's about it.

I'll assume my cut will be done sometime in January/February and I will bet 8-10% bodyfat by then. Then I plan on clean bulking for 3 months and then preparing for bootcamp (I'm highly considering enlisting in Army Reserve and I have talked to several recruiters and such)

so I'm currently testing myself on pushups, cardio, situps, and chinups constantly at the moment.

Jman, is the friggen man! Yep.....your goal is already done, ya' know that right!

Internal combustion ROCKS!

I hope you don't feel called out, Gooch. If you do, I apologize.

I thought of you for many reasons.

We share a lot in common (sh.......sh..do not say that too loud, lol, :)).

1. Our philosophies and dedication to our diets. We are strict and know how important it is, and this is a base we could grow on.

We obviously have different problems with our diets. You look at food, and your running to the Crapper, and your body is still asking "where's the love" and if I even at food the wrong way, I start looking like the Michelin Man in record time.

2. Consistency in application, and willing to adapt and do "what it takes" to get the job completed, and this is a base we could improve ourselves on.

3. We know one another as much as the forum allows in nearly 2 years.

4. I think you could handle my hyper-ness. :)

Any hoot, I am still thinking about it. And, I will let you know 2morrow. If I do decide, I will PM you, before I make the thread, and see how you want to proceed........young man.

Best wishes,

Chillen

I'd like to get certified for spin and become a substitute spin-instructor...put together an awesome song-list and rock the spin-room!

I want to finish-up my long trek and reach my body-fat% goal and be "as good as I can be"...or at least dial it in within a small percentage of being "there". I don' think we ever get "there"...but I want to approach that goal as close as reasonably possible.

I think we should constantly be setting goals and striving to improve ourselves...so to me, New Years isn't so much a time to set goals, but a time to reflect, evaluate and reorient the goals we've set. That said, we all know we're gonna splurge a bit and drink, eat and party a wee bit too much...so yeah, it'll be time to re-fire the program up come New Years. Ughh, I hate the way the gym gets busy right after New Years!

My last years resolution was to join a gym which I didn't and only joined this week. I would probably have joined and quit anyway. This year there will be no resolution but I hope I don't quit the gym. I only hope I can get fitter and shed some fat. :bncry:

Saw this the other day but didn't get to post....but I will now (to help me procrastinate more :))

Well I already made a goal for myself today when I decided that I would run the Long Island Marathon this coming May. That's my big health one. I figure its a big enough goal to mean something and far enough off that I can train for it properly and get myself into a very nice runners physique in the process.

My next goal ties into the first, and that is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Obviously working out is part of that, but my goal is to make sure I am still eating healthy everyday and continuing to lose weight. I'm already 8 pounds into my 15 pound goal that I set for the end of the month, so I hope to keep pushing after I reach that and hit my long term goal of 30 lbs lost by Memorial Day next year. The marathon just happens to fall right there in the last month until I reach my weight goal. Funny how that worked out the way it did.

My 3rd and biggest goal is to figure out what the hell I am going to do with my life. I have a decent job that pays me well, but I don't find much satisfaction in it. If you had asked me 4 years ago what I would be doing after college I certainly wouldn't have said fighting with contractors over lack luster performance or not using my college education in a design role. There are a few things that I like about my job, the people, the extra curricular activities (i.e. water tower inspection) and I do get to spend my fair share of time outdoors when the weather is nice (and sometimes not so nice), but in the end I come home feeling like I make little difference in the world. I think that's why I became a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT. I get something out of it. It's fun to ride the big red truck with lights flashing and sirens blasting, and it's a great feeling to be there helping someone who is in dire need. I think I know what I could be doing to make myself happy, but I need to consider the cost/benefit that will come from it and also whether I can do what I am considering (due to physical limitations from previous injuries).

Finally, getting to know myself better is a big goal as well. A lot of that comes from the previous goal of finding direction for my life/career, but it occurred to me while I was breaking up with my girlfriend that I don't really have clue what I want in a woman. I thought I did, but in the end I realize I don't.

Hefty goals, but whats the point in having goals if it doesn't take any work to achieve them?

You can quote me on that. ;)

Not sure what mine will be this year. Maybe to strive to be more offensive.

Haha, I believe in you man.

I don't really have any, just like last year. Although I read mine comments in last years thread. I was all busy with school and anxious to graduate. Now that's over, I did end up staying with the same company, I love it, but now I gotta think about getting my Masters...so different year, just new **** on the table.

As for fitness, New Year's has nothin to do with my goals. I just change em as I see fit, and really the change is as simple as bulk or cut. Right now it just happens to be cutting...so I just hope to accomplish some serious fat loss a month or two into 2009.

Here are some of my possible fitness goals:

1) Bench press twice my body weight; going to go for 350 lbs.
2) Run 1.5 miles in under 10 minutes
3) enter a half marathon
4) get my arms up to 17 inches (currently 15.5 unpumped and 16 after workout)
5) maintain a six pack through the whole summer and go to the beach more often
6) Try to reduce back on Caffeine (2 cups a week; currently 5 cups)

I met and exceeded last year's physical goals by a long way. Got my six pack by July and benched 300+ lbs by october, and quit some nasty habbits, slept early and woke up early on most days, read 1 book a month. Thank you workout god for helping me quit those BAD BAD BAD habbits...

5) maintain a six pack through the whole summer and go to the beach more often.

Bingo....pick one and start there. I like this one in particular. What you want to do is stock up on several cases of beer, then, as you drink each bottle, just keep sticking a fresh one back in the 6-pack! Do it at the beach. Done! :D

Alrighty' then!

We join on Monday as discussed in the PM. I will create the new thread then.

Let us show the younger ones, how a goal is earned and completed, baby! :)

Never tired.

"We" fired being tired.

A long time ago.

Over-training.......is over rated.

Best wishes,

Chillen
