Headaches...

Changed my diet, and I've been having headaches like something serious. They go away whenever I stuff my face with food, but the zig part of this zig zag diet is giving me massive headaches. Making me think I should take a different approach than zig zagging my diet.

I thought maybe it would go away, but it will only go away if I eat a ton. It's like my body is telling me to "eat, or this migraine will not go away".

It's like pressure behind my eyes. Not so much loud noises bothering me, but I am a little more sensitive to them. At first I thought it was possibly a dehydration headache, but I stay hydrated all day. Drinking nearly 2 gallons of water a day.

I take a multivitamin and a 1K mg vitamin c tablet in the morning. If the headache is there when I goto sleep, it's there when I wake up.

Suggestions? Headaches didn't start showing up until I lowered my caloric intake by over 50% from ~6500 to ~3K. Also, I'm not eating white bread or pasta. I switch to wheat bread and/or whole grain white, long grain rice, and whole grain pasta. Diet stayed pretty much the same, just significantly less portions and less frequency.

I don't know if this will help you, but migraines can be triggered by fluctuations in your blood glucose levels (mostly low blood sugar). Try to keep your BG levels steady, and hopefully you won't get as many.

A cappucino or café au lait will either take the edge off or make it worse. Higher fat foods sometimes help, too. When I have a migraine, I eat non-stop until it goes away. If it's a bad one, I just take migranal (nasal spray -- gets into the brain immediately). That stuff usually kills the migraine within about 10 minutes. Don't overdose. It's an ergotamine (rye fungus) -- an hallucinogen that has some nasty side effects. But it works, especially if the triptans aren't effective for you.

I often wondered why holes were drilled into people's heads in the olden days when they'd get headaches. After having a migraine, I realized that drilling a hole in my head would have felt much better than having a migraine.

I can't do the zig zag diet. My headaches are too intense from not eating as much. I drink organic coffee in the morning, and two PB&J sandwiches by 9am. I don't again eat until 1pm, which usually consists of either homemade whole grain dough pizza or a turkey sandwich and baked chips. Then eat again usually at around 730-9pm depending on schedule. Dinner varies.

The headaches when I eat like that are too much to endure. The latte or coffee doesn't do anything. Eating something high in glucose to replenish my glucose levels do nothing. I thought my body would adjust to those eating habits after a week or so, but it's not the case. The headaches don't go away unless I eat a LARGE portion meal. And even then, they don't go away completely.

I read that you will feel lethargic and crappy whenever you cut your diet down to cut or to "shock" the body, but the only symptoms I get are a massive headache, and it hard to wake up in the morning.

Today I woke up with a MASSIVE headache (which was there when I went to sleep, but not as intense) at 830am. Since it was my day off, I decided to stop and just eat like usual and the headache was gone by 11am. I continued about my day with my normal eating habits and the headache is gone.... So, I have to do something else to get results. This reduced calorie diet isn't working with the headaches appearing. I just can't do it.

You don't want that rebound effect from the carbs. I think the fats and proteins are what help to reduce the chances of a headache because they slow down the rate of absorption (lower the GI of the carbs).

I try to eat every 2.5-3 hours. If I don't, I get a dull headache, which is my body telling me "EAT". If I eat within 30 minutes, I'm OK. If I don't, I'm screwed.

I could never do a zig zag diet. My body needs consistency ;)

Are you sure it's not a coincidence and not based on your diet? I just got over a 2 day sinus headache...change of seasons

It seems like ILM has it nailed. You're only eating 3 times a day and these headaches go away when you eat and get your sugars up. Blood sugars can crash after x number of hours, hence why people get cravings and their metabolisms slow down. Try eating 5-6 times a day. If you really are worried then go see a doc and get a CT scan or an MRI.

I think our bodies think alike...

I tried eating 4-5 small meals today. Basically, I cut the portions down, and spread them out. Same effect. My body doesn't react well to the loss in calories or blood sugars. Well, maybe my body does, but these headaches are crazy.

Yeah, the headaches are horrible. Even if I don't get a full-blown migraine, I still get a horrible headache.

I just have a sensitive system when it comes to carbs, which is why my body seems to thrive on anabolic diets.
