Eggs in the morning 'aid weight loss

People who eat eggs for breakfast could be giving themselves a greater chance of losing weight, according to a scientific study.

Research at Louisiana State University asked some overweight women who were already on a low-fat diet to eat two eggs for breakfast for eight weeks, while others ate a bagel 1 in the morning.

Those who ate eggs lost 65 per cent more weight, had 83 per cent greater reductions in waste circumference2 and reported greater improvements in energy levels than participants who ate bagels.

According to the scientists, these findings add to a body of research suggesting that egg consumption promotes weight loss but also provides choline, an essential nutrient that promotes brain and memory development.

A separate study carried out by scientific consulting firm Exponent in Washington DC has also concluded that the contribution of eggs to coronary 3heart disease risk is "insignificant".

It is thought that the findings of the research could be used to challenge recommendations4 that egg consumption should be restricted, particularly when it is considered that eggs contain protein, folate iron and zinc for only around 75 calories.

The Calorie is KING.

Whether eggs are eaten or not.

Eggs are one of the most complete sources of natural protein, but carry a little amount. And, can be left out of the diet for for success.

But, one has to be smoking something "whacky" to do it, they taste so dang good. ;)

Case closed

Over an out.

:)

Best wishes,

Chillen

B/S - I bet the scientists didn't say that at all but have been mis-quoted to create a fad-diet article. Eggs are a good thing to have for breakfast but no food 'promotes' weight loss. As Chillen pointed out, it's all about calories. I regularly eat eggs in the morning (and evening) and I weight over 100kg, that's because of calories not eggs, fat or anything specific, it's just because I eat a lot

Also, the thing about low fat diets is a load of crap too, if you eat a high fat diet but eat in a calorie deficit you'll lose weight. You'll probably have a whole host of other medical issues but your weight will drop

Weight loss is aided by one thing only - consuming less than you burn

what the smack?

The half boiled are runny and you can dip toast in them, hard boiled ones can be painted and rolled down hills so you can have races

"Eggs with soldiers" as we used to call it. Not had that for years. Used to have it for breakfast as a kid all the time. Must be a better option than two bowls of Weetos

I'm from London too, I didn't say soldiers in case they don't say that in other countries. I'm pretty sure that people from all nations dipped toast in their eggs as kids though :)

Oh, OK then :D

Your body absorbs more protein from cooked eggs than boiled so it's better on that front and I remember Leigh Peele saying on here before that raw eggs contain something called Avidin that prevents absortion of nutrients from the egg but cooking prevents Avidin from doing this

So cooked eggs are better (and cooking kills salmonella too)

ewww microwaved egg? how does that work?

i like mine scrambled. :p

Crack an egg into a cup and microwave it, it tastes like poached egg

To do scrambled egg just prepare in the usual way and microwave in a pyrex jug, it tastes exactly the same as if you cook it on the hob

this is useless knowledge to someone who wakes up 10 mins before having to run out the door for work in the morning :(

Make a bunch of hard boiled eggs one night and then refrigerate them. Then in the morning all you have to do is grab it, rip the shell off, and devour! They last quite awhile in the fridge if already boiled.

great ideas guys, thanks.

microwave: how long? 1 min?

after reading this thread i wanted eggs so i went to the restaurant beside my work for some. they didn't have any so i came away with a multigrain cheese and tomato sandwich.
