No energy for training

Hey everybody,

Lately, I've been having a problem with my energy levels. I'm always run down and tired. I've pinpointed a few possibilities which may be causing this.

-Sleep
-Diet
-In need of new training program
-Work

Now, I try to get 9 hours of sleep a night and eat a slight surplus of 350 calories to add muscle. I've only had my new training program for a month and it has me lifting 3x per week and doing at least once 30 min cardio session per week.

My job isn't particularly demanding (I am an apprenticing electrician) but it has me on my feet most of the day and walking quite a bit. Essentially, I do anything that my boss doesn't want to do :p. Crawling in attics, carrying wire, climbing ladders and pulling cable etc.

I'm not to sure what's causing this fatigue. I used to bound out of bed and look forward to my lifting or cardio session that night. Yesterday, I finished half of my workout and left the gym because I was so tired.

Does anybody have any ideas which has been causing this? I can't figure it out!

Thanks very much!

Maybe you're getting too much sleep. 9 hours is more than most people need to be refreshed. I know when I sleep too much I feel like I'm dragging all day. Just a thought.

ARe you taking vitamins? Get B-12 and a multi-vitamin with 18mg iron. Also, your job seems alot more demanding than a sedentary one. on top of working out. You need to eat, before workout preferaby 1 hr before eat around 80-90g of carbs. and after workout eat carbs as well You are probably depleting glycogen stores too much, a side effect is dizyness and lack of energy.

I have not been taking vitimans but I will start. I think my nutrition is in line. I eat about 90g of carbs before a workout and 90 simple carbs after a workout.

Is this a constant problem or just this one day?

If its just this one time I wouldn't worry to much about it.

This week, it's happened to me twice. It's becoming more frequent, that's why I am inquiring.

Thanks everybody!:)

It does sound as if you are doing a bit too much. If you are getting nine hours sleep on top of a full time job (and study?) and plenty of working out, I wonder if you are having any time to relax and socialise? Also think back did you have a virus in the last few months - you may not have fully recovered before going back to a demanding schedule.

Well, I'm just working with no school. I really don't do much social things. Just work, sleep and lift lol. Kind of bad. I also was overtrained a couple months ago and I caught a fever. I may very well have not recovered from that.

Do you drink much coffee? Over the summer I was drinking a few cups of Javafit (coffee+150 mg of caffiene) a day. I noticed that without it I was a zombie and I have cut back to 1 cup prior to work outs and only if needed on off days. This seems to be helping

Okay, fit4life is just yankin' your chain man. Having to use the mens room is only a symptom of diabetes. It is by no means the deciding factor that one has diabetes. Going to the mens room allot can also mean you have an over active bladder, too small of a bladder, drink too much fluids...and so on..

if this keeps going and is consistently a problem it could be a number of things.

diabetes could be 1 thing but if you are fairly active and of a healthy physique and eat right then the likelihood of you developing Type II diabetes is small. It's still possible if you have a defective pancreas or something affecting your pancreas. If you feel it might be a concern get some blood tests done.

Something that is more likely: Mono. Been kissing any unknowns lately? Been kissing an known who has had it or who may be feeling the same symptoms? If you are concerned get some blood tests done.

You could have a virus.

You could be overworked.

You could be oversleeping...how old are you? 9 hours is above the norm for adults (last i read...cause it changes a lot).

If you are that worried about it that you are posting here for advice maybe a trip to the doctor is in order.

I am frequently tired myself. but that it more because I have 2 jobs and never sleep in, i have EMT class 2 nights a week, i rarely get more than 5 hours of sleep, often face interuptions in sleep due to fire or rescue calls and i try to work out inbetween it all. Am I worried that I feel tired? Nope. I just accept that I have a lot going on and it drains me.
