Hi there guys
Very new to the forum, but have greatly enjoyed reading and seeing all the contributions from people. This seems like a really great place for advice and motivation!
Anyway a little about me. I'm 24 and from the UK, studying for a PhD in Bird Migration. I've been weight training for about 4 years on and off, and have recently incorporated HIIT into my weekly routine.
Anyway apart from saying hi the other reason is to say that I have smashed through the first of my goals for the summer. Despite having a large frame I've always had quite a high % bf, and this summer decided to finally do something about it because I was tired of feeling so bad about the way I looked.
So I started off 20th May at 17st 1lb (239lb) and after 6 weeks of sensible diet, weights and a whole lotta HIIT I weighed myself today and have broken through the 16st (224) barrier and am down to 15st 13lb (223lb). Ideally I want to get down to 200-210lb and then we'll be talking seriously lean, and possibly even allow me some small degree of confidence at last. (To put these figures in perspective I'm 6'2). I think that the HIIT training has worked amazingly well, but by far one of the most important things I have done is sort out my diet at last. No more junk food, only lean protein, complex carbs and lots of fruit and veg. The problem before wasnt that I didnt want to eat healthily, its just I had the willpower of a robot and could never stop myself eating junk. Now every time I'm tempted I just visualise my goals and how I want to be and it makes it so much easier. An amusing anecdote: I was invited round to eat dinner with some friends the other night, but knew they would be eating everything I didnt want to be eating (i.e. lots of simple starchy carbs, sugary pudding etc.). Anyway I didnt want to miss out on the socialising so I brought round some of my own food and cooked it separately (my friends are quite understanding, because this could be construed as quite rude!). The end result is that when I sat down with my rare sirloin steak with side salad of tomato, cucumber and feta, every single person at the table was staring at my plate, drooling, and told me they wished they were having what I was having. Needless to say I was very pleased with myself.
so if you've taken the time to read this stream of consciousness, thanks a lot. I look forward to being an active member of the fora and helping out where I can.
All the best
