Fat loss while Bulking

I have been bulking for a few months now with no cardio at all and have now got to the point where I seriously need to lose fat. I've heard it so many times that you can't bulk and cut at the same time. But if I carry on eating alot of protein and lifting heavy weights but add in HIIT like 3 times a week, will I be able to lose fat and gain muscle.

IMO certainly not.

It takes a lot of diet tweaks to accomplish this.

Different type of cardio

I've been bulking for a few months with no cardio and have gained quite alot of fat which I need to get rid of but I hate cardio. I find it so boring and so hard, I have been doing HIIT on a stairclimber machine for 20 minutes but I hate it. Is there anything else I could do. I hear that some people do things such as sled dragging or tire flipping but the sleds cost alot and I'm not sure where I would get a huge tyre from.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sleds are about 80 bucks on eBay. You could try doing about 10 minutes of sprinting outside. That would work much better for you. Intervals on a stair master are kind of crappy anyway.

lol, i actually meant to make that second post a new thread, oh well.

Ok thats what I thought.

Tony- I'll have a look on ebay or maybe i'll try making one. Is ten minutes sprinting really enough?

It's all about the calorie defecit. You have to create a calorie defecit. So it depends on what you eat if that much cardio is enough or not.

I have to disagree with that. It is still possible to accomplish both. Granted gains in both directions are a little slower... but doable. I've had the opportunity to study collegiate trainers and nutritionists in hockey and football, and (with the exception of the front o and d lines) there was never an emphasis on bulking or cutting, and these are some of the fittest athletes out there.

And just speaking from personal experience, I've never had any problems losing weight and improving my lifts.

Looks like I'm just going to have to concentrate on losing fat then, although i'm so worried about losing size and strength. I have worked up from a 120lb bench press to a 200lb+ bench press over about 4-5 months and I'm so worried that I'll lose that if I start to cut:(

If you type burn the fat, feed the muscle into your search engine, you should be able to see the ideas behind that program.

This is what confuses me, it is said that you cant gain fat and lose muscle at the same time. However, a ton of the people that workout in my college gym are jacked and lean, and I'm pretty sure most of them have never even heard of bulking and cutting, so I know its not impossible or even rare. I just have to figure out how...

I think it depends on the person like everything else but I found that I actually seem to gain a little muscle while burning fat if I stay just 100 or 200 cals under my maintenance and eating properly. You might try this it'll just take a little longer to lose the fat but if your really concerned about not losing what you've worked for then it might be worth a shot. Even when I cut 20% though I still never lost what I had I just wasnt able to increase my strength.

Thanks, I'm going to try eating super clean but keep the protein up for a couple of weeks and see how that goes.

I wouldn't get too discouraged by the other guys at the college gym. I'm in school now too. It's so irritating when I have to monitor my diet and workout hard just to get a peek at my stomache lines while seeing these guys straight out of high school, who rarely lift correctly, bringe drink on the weekends, continue to be jacked. Oh well, their lifestyles will catch up to them eventually.

Genetics...of course unless you know their workout history and current diet that's a bit extreme I guess.

For the OP - Full body workouts* seem the best fit for me, with a high-protein diet, a decent calorie deficit based on energy expenditure/height/weight/age, and an EASY 45 minutes cardio everyday.

Cardio is key my man...my metabolism was obliterated as a few people here know with my little starve moment in high school, but I maintained my weight/strength and looked ripped, all because of cardio. Of course I was running a SHIiTLOAD, but I could eat whatever I wanted (post-season) and still maintain..If you get that bored with cardio, throw on some hikin' boots and a weighted vest and do some fast-paced walkin' through the woods. Or grab one of those audio-books.

Plus it's good being able to never seem to run out of breath...just some food for thought...wonderful, wholesome, HEARTY food...as in heart attack.

oh yeah.. *Squats, deadlifts, dead-hang pullups (MARINE CORPS SHIiT, none of that kippin' nonsense) Tire flippin' is more of a FBW in my opinion.

Thanks, I'm going to eat as clean as possible but keep protein high and i'll try and do at least 3 sessions of hiit every week and some steady cardio every day maybe running, walking or cycling as I don't really have access to huge tyres and weight sleds or though I am trying to get a weight sled
