Sprained Ankle Recovery

I recently sprained my ankle (April 18th). From the amount of swelling I had and the fact that I was unable to stand on it for the first two days, I'd guess I had a grade II sprain.

I went to the doctor, got xrays, thankfully no fracture. They basically just gave me an air brace and some stretches to do. I been doing RICE and walking on crutches since.

The question that I didn't ask at the doctor is when can I start walking on it. Right now I can walk on it with a limp, but I don't experience really any pain although the ankle feels tender. Should I stay off it until it feels normal or is it ok to walk on it? (maybe with partial support from the crutches?)

I'm just a little unclear about the balance between resting the ankle and rehabilitating the ankle. Not to mention the crutches are really inconvient for a college student.

Well the first 48 hours are important for ankle sprains it seems like you've been doing the right thing so far but you do not want to immobilize your ankle too long. Make sure you start doing all of your balance excercises, and all of those other good stretches. Currently my ankle is sprained has well. If you keep it immobile too long then weak scar tissue will build up so keep weight off of it but stretch and I'd say after a week or two start walking to build up strong scar tissue to prevent further sprain.
