Come on brotha and sista's lets show our strength for CCR!

Just remember: when one door closes, there's probably a jerk on the other side who just slammed it in your face...:11doh: You mean that's not how the saying goes?

Just kidding. Sometimes, things just suck and it's up to us to make the best of things.

Sorry you're going through a rough patch, and feel free to share the weight of that burden with us. You're not the only heavy lifter around here! [I nominate Goergen - haha!]

Bump.......:beerchug:

I have one suggestion and one reflection.

Suggestion: if you have a doctor get your hands on some anxiety medication. Walking around in a trance worrying yourself to death is not in your or your family's best interest.

Reflection: When I was about your age (24), I was fired from a crappy job as an assistant manager at an automobile tire store. I already had a Bachelor's degree and had spoken to faculty at the local university about starting a master's program a few months earlier, but didn't have the guts to quick this crap job and go back to school fulltime. After I was fired, I started graduate school, went on to a great career and have been pleasantly self-employed for the last 17 years.

You were unhappy about this job anyways, so this may be the push you need to get out of that situation. Like a few others have said, things happen for a reason, but you need to find that reason.

As long as your daughter, wife, and self are healthy then everything is right in the world my friend.

Maybe you could be a product tester for shorts. Make them rip proof :D

Oh and I found that Sportacus show. I was able to DVR a few episodes, since they come on at 530am here. I watched about 5 minutes on my lunch break with my son the other day. Its kind of cheesey but I like what you said about the reaction from your little one.

I want to tell you not to worry.....but we both know that wouldn't mean anything. It's a natural reaction and the stress can beat you down.

The only thing I can tell you is that over the course of my life I've found myself time & again majorly stressing over various issues...and almost all of them, in the end, turned out to be something I really didn't need to worry about. In a speach once given at Harvard, the speaker (in his speech) mentioned that worrying about something is about as effective as trying to solve a math problem by chewing gum. So you're gonna worry, fret and be depressed.....but it won't help and just know that things generally work themselves out and you'll soon reflect back and realize it was wasted energy.

There are many MANY people who would love to be in your position right now. Count your blessings, keep your head up and just know that this is a process in life that sooner or later most of us face.

As my bike-riding buddy says.....just keep turning the peddles over.

Best wishes....

- Steve

At the risk of being the only one that sounds like a jerk in this thread.

CCR, this is not that big of a deal. Get your game face on and get after it over the next 8 weeks. There are no problems without solutions. You just need to find your solution.

This is the type of thing that makes you a better, wiser, and more prepared person. Be glad it happened when you are young and not when you were 50 years old like some people.

If you master this part of life and become skilled at adapting to change, you will have a great life.

Learn from and enjoy the challenges and learning experiences ahead.

:beerchug:

arsehole... :D

That is some good advice though!

CCR its times like these you just have to grab life by the balls and say "F^ck this sh%t" Go out an put yourself out there, I know it sucks having to provide for kids where work is sparce but you just gotta suck it up and go for any opportunity.

Every breath in life is an opportunity for those willing to seize it. Carpe Diem man seize the day!

Thanks guys, I really doubted if this thread could help when Chillen put it up, to be honest it made me cringe a little :) but it's been really good reading the replies so thanks Chillen

Wrangell - Thanks for the suggestion of getting proffessional help with writing my CV. It's such an obvious thing but I'd never thought of that before

Goergen - You weren't being too tough, you were just saying what I've been trying to tell myself, I just think that yesterday was the day the news sunk in and panic took over

Tony - Sportacus rules!!! He's cheezy but he's my hero :) Even though he appears to be a fruitarian

I have found a little silver lining to this situation; my new management are totally clueless in general and don't seem to have noticed that half the revenue from my department comes from a partnership deal with an outsourcing company and that our contract with them won't be renewed unless we become complient with new software by June.

The evil bonus for me if I leave is the knowledge that I'm the only person at the company that knows what to and how to do it
They're gonna get hit with a $500k loss the second I leave the building and those losses will continue to roll every year after I'm gone as I can easily make sure they never get that deal back :yelrotflmao:

I read a sign on a market stall last week that said
'Do you want to speak to the man in charge or the man who knows what's going on?'
I think that's very true here

I know it's terribly unprofessional of me not to advise them of this small detail but hey, life's not fair sometimes ;)

It's money well spent IMO...and if you're lucky, it may be part of your outplacement services.

In addition, another very critical step IMO. Type your full name into Google and see the listings that come up - as companies that may be interested in you could easily do an on-line background check on you.

If something embarrassing or unflattering ( that may ' turn off ' a potential employer ) should turn up, you may want to turn to the services of a company like ' defendmyname.com ' to clean up your on-line profile

How cool, I'm a 'Solo Dancer & AIDS activist' as well as being Chairman of the British Naturism Association :)

I only found 2 entries that were actually me and they were both work related so that's cool

I'm meeting a recruitment consultant at lunch time today, have a telephone interview tomorrow morning and another meeting/interview tomorrow with a financial training company who could retrain me for free and offer a placement at the end of it so I have a few things in the pipeline now which is good because I think I've now applied for every available job in London already!!

Good news !

Do you have any further details as to what your severance package might look like - i.e outplacement services, weeks pay, health benefits etc. ?

Also, what type of business is your company ( that you are leaving ) in ?

And what was your title there ?

I'm currently under a period of consultation which ends on April 11th, at that point my job will be made redundant and I'll be given my 4 weeks notice.
They're going to pay me that 4 weeks in leau of notice so I'll be a free agent and my redundancy pay off should be about $5,000 which might sound a lot but would only cover my expenses for about a month

As for health care, we don't often get that in the UK as we have the NHS. The only real benefit I'd lose is my life insurance

Maybe you should bring up that deal and ask for a raise. Them paying you an extra 10-15K a year is well worth saving 500K in revenue.

I could do but a part of me wants to hurt them now and by doing this I would be able to expose the incompetence of the person who got rid of me.
I'm sat on a bomb and it's gonna go off the moment I stand up and the malicious streak in me wants to see what happens when it does

Of course if I don't get offered anything else I could use it in my exit interview but I can't imagine the guy changing his mind about me or he'll lose credibility

So you were working under contract , you were self employed for all intents and purposes ?

So, as a contract employee, you never received any health benefits ( i.e drug and dental ) ?

We have universal health care here in Canada too, yet most employees are covered for health ( i.e drug & dental ) expenses by the company nonetheless.

What did your company do ? What functional department did you work / consult in - manufacturing ( operations ), logistics, IT, finance etc. ?

No, I'm a full time employee. A consultation period is a legal requirement where the company are under obligation to inform me of their intention and find something else for me in the company but I don't think that'll happen here as we're making cut backs

We're a media monitoring/ ad consultancy company

I ran the bespoke ordering side of the business which is basically being eliminated and every client will be required to be under contract in future

How many people report to you - if any ?

How long have you been with the company ?

Did you have a dept / personal sales ( revenue ) budget - i.e performance target ?

How was your dept's overall performance evaluated ? Based upon what measures ?

What were your personal performance indicators when you had your annual review ?
